Senior Data Engineer (Full Time) - Salary - £54,664 - £64,310 (dependent on experience) - Hybrid working.

About the role

As a Senior Data Engineer joining Ordnance Survey's Data Capture and Engineering team, you will provide leadership and expertise in developing new techniques, tools and pipelines. You will transform and manipulate geospatial data into forms suitable for visualisation, analysis and further development with your Agile team.

Providing insight and experience to advise data-driven decision making, your focus is on building, maintaining and solving data processing systems to meet business requirements, with an emphasis on security, reliability, fault-tolerance, scalability, fidelity, and efficiency.

Researching and utilising ground-breaking technologies to automate and simplify processes, is all part of the role. For example, you could be working with big data and machine learning technologies such as Azure Databricks, or more traditional geospatial transformation tools, such as FME or ESRI geo-processing.

A technical leader in one of our development teams, the primary focus of your day-to-day activities will be data manipulation and delivering data pipelines to aid development. Your leadership will guide other engineers to successful delivery outcomes.

What we're looking for

If you're interested in joining a team that lies at the heart of what OS is about, we're looking for an individual that can demonstrate skills and experience in

  • A degree level qualification in a quantitative subject area or significant experience in a relevant field, such as statistical modelling or mathematics
  • Microsoft Azure Cloud Services (or similar)
  • Working with any of the following: Databricks, Spark, FME, ESRI geoprocessing
  • Relevant programming language(s) and databases
  • Influencing key business and technical stakeholders, with strong presentation and consultancy skills
  • Providing technical coaching and mentoring
  • People Leadership (desirable)
  • Hadoop, Elasticsearch, TensorFlow, Keras, or equivalent big data processing and machine learning technologies (desirable)
  • Geospatial data processing and analysis techniques (desirable)

Location: We embrace a hybrid working model at OS and understand there is no one size fits all in relation to how we work. We have a fantastic HQ in Southampton, Hampshire where you will be required to spend 1 - 3 days per week with the remaining time being a personal choice as to whether you work from home or spend more time at OSHQ.
