We are seeking a Service Manager with a background in Mechanical Engineering to oversee all aspects of service provision for a leading organisation in the forestry sector. This role requires managing a team to ensure high-quality inspection, servicing, and repair of assets, as well as developing strong relationships with internal and external partners. The successful candidate will be a key player in maintaining our commitment to sustainable forestry and conservation.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Lead and manage a team to deliver business objectives, outcomes, and targets.
  • Set and apply standards of conduct and performance consistently across your team.
  • Conduct performance reviews, set objectives using SMART methodology, and ensure regular documentation of updated objectives.
  • Facilitate technical and safety discussions, and ensure continual professional development within your team.
  • Address performance issues promptly and manage team attendance to minimise business disruption.
  • Oversee the repair and maintenance of vehicles, machinery, and equipment within your geographical area.
  • Maintain an approved supplier network for efficient external sourcing of maintenance.
  • Ensure all maintenance events are recorded within the asset management software.
  • Manage financial aspects in line with value for money principles and delegated authority limits.
  • Maintain effective communication across your team, colleagues, and suppliers.
  • Champion an inclusive working environment and contribute to departmental discussions and business sustainability.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Demonstrable experience and qualification in a customer and technical engineering-focused environment.
  • Understanding of legislative and regulatory inspection and testing compliance in an engineering setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Approachable, customer-focused, and experienced in financial business and budgets.
  • Recognised technical qualification such as NVQ, SVQ to minimum level 3 and/or significant relevant experience.
  • Time served experience in an engineering, fleet, or motor industry role.
  • Minimum of 3 GCSEs, or equivalent, in core subjects at grade C or above.
