Production Manager

Within this role you will be responsible for achieving and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Block Plant and Metals production operations to provide quality, on time and in full orders to our customers, whilst achieving excellence in safety.

The Production Manager is responsible for managing the day to day running of the Block Plant and Metals production within the company, in line with business needs. The role will include accountability for all matters that contribute to the business' effective operation and Health & Safety, including management of production and materials, developing a committed workforce, talent and succession management, operational efficiency with a quality focus and instilling a Zero Harm culture.

Production & Materials

  • Management and economic control of resources (plant/labour/material)
  • To implement corrective and continuous improvement actions on equipment and processes where required
  • Review the effectiveness of our productivity including measurements for quality, productivity and supplier performance.
  • Responsible for co-ordinating monthly, quarterly and annual stock takes and audits
  • Analyse and evaluate all KPI achievements and action improvement measures as necessary.
  • Ensure continued high performance, or plan and implement process improvement plans as necessary in line with agreed lean manufacturing programmes and to optimise the capacity of all production plant equipment.
  • Audit housekeeping in all areas to ensure high standards are maintained
  • Ensure all production materials purchased are ordered and delivered within specification for production requirements.

People Management

You will be responsible for developing an committed workforce that is focused on achieving the business' aims and objectives.

This can be done by implementing disciplinary action where appropriate in all situations and particularly attendance, monitor absence levels and timekeeping issues, also effectively manage disciplinary issues treating all employees equally and fairly in a consistent manner. You will need to effectively manage employee relations and site communication through timely team briefings on targets, common activities, site problems and continuous improvement initiatives.

Organise and manage the recruitment of temporary agency workers, their inductions, supervision and recording of hours, as well as developing a multi skilled workforce in line with the business needs that ensure excellent quality and service is delivered to our customers. Furthermore, manage the performance of the production supervisors, key production staff and chargehands to ensure they support and work to the company objectives and targets and to develop potential in team to create a natural succession pool.

Health and Safety

  • Ensure all accidents and hazard reports are correctly recorded, advise the relevant authorities and conduct a thorough investigation and that appropriate actions are taken to avoid re-occurrence.
  • Ensure site compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and undertaking partnership meetings / toolbox talks.
  • Ensure that risk assessments are in place for all activities and that they are reviewed in line with the annual plan.
  • Document safe systems of work (SOP's), communicating and ensuring their implementation ensuring training, competence and compliance.
  • Protecting the Health and Safety of all operatives and visitors by ensuring that safe systems of work are adhered to and any permit work is covered by a live, accurate Permit to Work.
  • Issue personal protective equipment and ensure its correct and required usage and that appropriate training has been provided, as necessary.
  • Investigating work areas suffering reoccurring health complaints or hazard reports in order to locate root cause. Request support from Occupational Health Nursing Advisor or Safety Personnel as appropriate.

This is can be done by ensuring you and your areas of responsibility are working safely and in line with the business Health and Safety policy, as well as, implementing continuous improvement plans, systems and procedures within time-scales.

In addition, displaying an open and honest approach with all colleagues, along with undertaking any other reasonable duties as requested by superiors.

Essential Skills

Education and experience

  • 3 years Production experience in a Management position
  • Has managed operational functions, ideally Foam and Metal production
  • Can demonstrate having delivered sustainable profitable growth through meeting customer demands
  • Has demonstrably led successful culture change programmes
  • Has operated in a similar business before with demonstrable personal credibility
  • Can demonstrate a strong team-based approach to leadership, having recruited and developed high performing individuals, and developed high-performing teams

  • Engineering Degree, Masters or MBA educated (or equivalent role-based experience)
