HIGHER LEVEL TEACHING ASSISTANT HLTA - LANCASTER

A primary school located in lancaster is looking to recruit a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support across the school, from EYFS to Year 6.

This position is full time, starting in September 2024, initially for one term.

Job Summary

The Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) will work under the guidance of teaching staff to support learning activities for pupils. They will have the skills and experience to deliver lessons and lead classes independently when required. The successful candidate will also provide support in the planning and assessment of learning.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting Teaching and Learning:

  • Deliver lessons to whole classes, groups, or individuals as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of learning activities.
  • Use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support pupils' learning.

Pupil Support:

  • Support the social and emotional development of pupils.
  • Establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the classroom.

Classroom Management:

  • Manage pupil behaviour in line with school policies.
  • Encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all pupils in activities.
  • Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement.

Curriculum Support:

  • Provide support in the preparation and organization of learning resources.
  • Help with the development of IEPs (Individual Education Plans) and monitor their progress.
  • Undertake marking of pupils' work and record achievement/progress.

Professional Development:

  • Participate in training and other learning activities as required.
  • Keep up to date with current educational practices and developments.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Liaise with parents, carers, and other professionals as necessary.
  • Attend and contribute to relevant meetings, including staff meetings and reviews.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications:

  • Relevant qualifications at NVQ Level 4 or equivalent.
  • HLTA status or equivalent higher-level teaching assistant qualification.
  • Additional training or qualifications in specific learning needs or areas would be beneficial.

Experience:

  • Significant experience working in a school environment.
  • Experience in planning and delivering lessons.
  • Experience in supporting pupils with special educational needs is desirable.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire pupils.
  • A caring and patient nature.

Working Conditions:

  • Primary school-based environment.
  • Full-time, typically within school hours.
  • requirement to assist with extracurricular activities or after-school programs.
