£190 per day (umbrella)

  • Support via the Service Desk about network, telecommunication, and related products and systems incidents and service requests
  • Investigate when it is reported that a PC / Laptop / Telephone is not working, after desktop support has made an initial investigation, by using the ability to first look at the network switch to see if there is connectivity on designated port[s] and check VLAN assignment
  • Where required, liaison between the Trust and all third-party support companies
  • Responsible for daily moves, changes, and installation of new data points, telephone extensions etc
  • Advice to users on telecom products, e.g., headsets, answering services, cordless handsets
  • Investigate and diagnose network problems, working with users, other staff, and suppliers as appropriate. Resolves such problems, cooperating with the Technical Support team to maintain overall network performance
  • Can analyse, diagnose, plan, execute, and evaluate work to time, cost, and quality targets, exhibiting thorough familiarity with available methods, procedures, tools, equipment, and standards associated with own area of specialization and making correct choices
  • The concepts and logic of planning and managing the interaction between two or more computers (or other "intelligent" devices) on a wide area network that provides data and telecommunication services
  • Displays a responsible attitude to following procedures, keeping records, and caring for equipment and other assets
  • Is thoroughly familiar with the installed hardware and software and the procedures in use across the Trust with respect of network services. Demonstrates good communication and negotiation skills with experience in dealing with users, other staff, and suppliers
  • Ensures that all requests from users for assistance are handled promptly and effectively; is proactive to ensure that users make effective use of the facilities available to them
  • Demonstrates commitment and ingenuity in expert application of available facilities to non-standard situations, diagnosing underlying causes of difficulties, and devising solutions or workarounds to ensure that the effect on operations is minimized
  • The post holder will be responsible for the technical aspects of all the Trust's network infrastructure initiatives and programs working closely with the Network Services Manager. It is possible that you may be asked to travel to the Trust's other sites for work purposes
  • The post holder will hold a substantial and in-depth understanding of wider network and security technologies including Extreme Enterasys network switches, Extreme Management Centre & Extreme WIFI platform. CISCO Software Defined network - switches, ISE, DNAC, DCNM . Checkpoint R81 firewall experience.
  • Involvement in the LAN migration project work as and when required, including working out of normal hours.
  • Possesses the ability to connect end-user devices to network switches. Patching - using RJ45 patch cables. connection in patch panels - connectivity to and between different communications rooms - patch from panel to network switch

Required experience

  • Able to replace switches when there are failures.
  • Able to undertake switch refresh involving capturing as is and migrating to as new.
  • Able to replace one network switch and all connections to a replacement network switch.
  • Able to improve cable patching appearance, during migrations.
