The Opportunity

We're looking for an enthusiastic Lead Actuary to join our Strategy, Performance and Planning team on a full time, permanent basis.

Your new role

Reporting to the Actuarial Manager, you'll be supporting our Insurance Division in strategic portfolio level profitability analysis and thematic reviews which will assist and influence underwriting decisions. You'll work across various lines of business with exposures across a range of geographic territories and have leadership responsibilities.

Other responsibilities:

  • Driving expected ultimate losses per portfolio (on both an ‘as is' and a ‘go forward' basis allowing for quantifiable changes to strategy).
  • Identifying areas of strength and weakness in the Plan through segmentation analysis
  • Recommending actions to address any weaknesses or enhance the strengths through identifying the levers available to improve the underwriting result
  • Carrying out scenario and sensitivity testing on the Business Plans to ensure the robustness and effectiveness of any changes
  • Peer reviewing DUA and broker profitability reviews.
  • Analysing claims inflation trends and considering factors influencing inflation for input into the central inflation management group
  • Support with outwards reinsurance placements and discussions
  • Provide input to pricing models, applying knowledge of business performance, trends and driving factors to assist Pricing Actuarial colleagues in the model review process
  • Case Pricing – although not part of the planning function, providing resource support to the pricing team for case pricing reviews.

About You:

This role will suit you should you have General Insurance background and be fully qualified Actuary.

  • Ability to articulate analysis to wide range of partners (both internal and external)
  • Ability to engage collaboratively with stakeholders bringing a range of business perspectives
  • Persuading and influencing skills both directly and indirectly
  • Presentational skills
  • Experience in Microsoft Excel and SQL
  • Knowledge of software and programming languages such as Python, R, Power BI, Tableau and Visual Basic is desirable
