Financial Accountant

Venesky-Brown's client, a public sector organisation in Glasgow, is currently looking to recruit a Financial Accountant for an initial 3 month contract on a rate of £230.44 - £241.44 /day (Inside IR35) This role will be hybrid working with at least three days per week onsite.

Responsibilities:

  • Using specialist financial expertise to ensure effective treasury management within the organisation, in line with its Treasury Management Policy. Responsible for cash flow forecasting and reporting, managing cash, deposits and borrowings to meet the cash requirements of the organisation. Contribute to the ongoing development of the organisation's Treasury Management Policy and Procedures.
  • Provide timely and clear management information in relation to cash and borrowings, for both strategic and operational purposes, including financial planning, financial governance and control, budgeting, forecasting and monitoring, supporting the reporting and presentation of financial information to all relevant stakeholders and governing bodies, including meeting reporting obligations to lenders.
  • Contributing as a member of the accounting team in the preparation of the annual Financial Statements.
  • Production of all deliverables for specific income and expenditure and balance sheet areas and liaison with external auditors.
  • Contributing as a member of the accounting team in the provision of monthly management information to the organisation's Executive Team. Producing robust financial reports and analyses together with expert recommendations on key areas of focus.
  • Provide appropriate and timely input into the organisation's other major financial planning and reporting exercises: Annual Plan / Budget, Strategic Plan Forecasts and Quarterly Reviews.
  • Considering and communicating the impact of changing technical accounting requirements on financial reporting and communicating implications to finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Completion of accurate and timely external data returns (including HESA return and other information requests from external stakeholders).
  • Leading on the organisation's ongoing insurance arrangements, ensuring adequacy of cover, appropriate renewal, liaising with insurers regarding claims and ongoing update of policies and supporting procedures.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, applying appropriate professional standards and demonstrating a culture of ownership and accountability to ensure the delivery of excellent services.
  • Participate fully in the work and activities of Finance and contribute to the development of organisation-wide finance solutions in support of the wider community and delivery of the organisation's objectives.

Essential Skills:

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent)
  • Membership of a recognised accounting professional body
  • Substantial proven experience in a financial/management accounting or audit role in a large complex organisation
  • Knowledge and experience of financial systems and preparation of financial statements
  • Excellent written and presentation skills, able to present complex financial information to a wide audience, including nonfinancial colleagues, clearly and comprehensively
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise and manage multiple tasks
  • High level of IT skills, especially Word and Excel with the ability in particular to structure, analyse and interpret complex financial data
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and collaborate effectively; communicate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, at all levels of the organisation; influence effectively in order to negotiate any perceived barriers or constraints to support the achievement of agreed objective and challenge constructively where required
  • Self-motivated, able to work effectively under pressure and to tight timescales, whether independently, as part of a team or leading a small team, with an aptitude for prioritising and managing competing demands.
  • Approachable and enthusiastic manner, coupled with a positive "can do" approach to work, as well as personal impact, giving the ability to maintain credibility at all levels of the organisation.
  • Enjoys varied and challenging work, working outside own areas of comfort in support of wider team objectives if required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and collaborate effectively; communicate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, at all levels of the organisation; influence effectively in order to negotiate any perceived barriers or constraints to support the achievement of agreed objective and challenge constructively where required
