Senior Test Engineer full time - Salary 41,659.00 to 49,010.00 (dependent on experience) - Hybrid working

About the role

We are looking for a proactive and technical Senior Test Engineer to join our test community within the Engineering group. You will improve the test capability in all aspects of the engineering lifecycle through coaching, mentoring and technical leadership.

You will regularly participate in estimation activities and are encouraged to see opportunities to maximise test benefit within the team. You will report to, provide regular updates, and provide support to the domain Test Lead.

You'll communicate test goals and issues between technical teams, leads, architects, delivery managers and stakeholders, as well as mentoring junior test engineers in both technical and non-technical skills.

Working within an agile team, you will be responsible for designing, writing, and implementing automated and manual test suites to ensure adequate and effective test coverage and provide test assurance of the user stories in a test-first environment using cloud architecture.

You will also provide assurance at team retrospectives and planning sessions to ensure test best practice, continual improvements and appropriate standards are adhered to.

What we're looking for

If you are interested in joining a team that lies at the heart of what OS is about, we are looking for someone that can demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Proficient in one or more of the following languages: Python, Scala, C#
  • Proven analytical skills in designing and implementing tests & test frameworks for functional and non-functional test activities.
  • Excellent knowledge of agile methodologies and working closely with engineers, advising on process improvement
  • Experience working with back-end systems and/or data testing
  • Outstanding knowledge and skills in software testing & industry best practice

Further, experience in the following areas is desirable:

  • Testing in the cloud and knowledge of the Azure Portal or similar
  • Experience of ETL and/or big data technologies, e.g. Spark, Databricks
  • Experience taking an active role in test-first CI/CD environments
  • Awareness of geospatial systems and technologies

Location: We embrace a hybrid working model at OS and understand there is no one size fits all in relation to how we work. We have a fantastic HQ in Southampton, Hampshire which you will be required to attend once a week or as your work dictates for important in person team or stakeholder meetings / training, with the remaining time being a personal choice as to whether you work from home or spend more time at OSHQ.
