Summary

Southwark Council is seeking a dynamic and experienced Digital Communications Contractor to lead a two-month project aimed at improving our digital and social media output.

This role will involve creating compelling content (end-to-end production and delivery) and developing and implementing strategies to boost engagement, increase reach, and effectively communicate the Council's initiatives and services. Key Responsibilities

  • Content creation: Produce high-quality, engaging content for various digital platforms, including social media, website, and email newsletters. This includes filming and photography out and about the borough of Southwark, acting as a "social media journalist".
  • Channel selection: Making sure the right content is on the right channel at the right time.
  • Social media management: Support the digital media officer to oversee daily social media activities, including posting, monitoring, and responding to comments and messages.
  • Content curation: Create and curate a library of content for future utilisation.
  • Analytics and reporting: Working with the digital media officer to track and analyse performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of digital campaigns and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Utilising stakeholder channels: Exploring how the Council can utilise digital and social channels beyond its own, such as community Facebook groups and partner's channels.
  • Training and handover: Provide training to staff on best practices in digital communications and ensure a smooth handover of ongoing projects and strategies at the end of the contract. Skills Required
  • Proven experience in digital communications, social media management and content creation.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms, trends, and best practices.
  • Excellent editing and content creation skills.
  • Ability to analyse data and generate actionable insights.
  • Confident with people to gain their trust and the ability to work independently.
  • Familiarity with local government operations and public sector communication is a plus.
