Chief Accountant

The Role

We are delighted to be working with an expanding Local Authority who are in an exciting growth phase and therefore have an opportunity for a Chief Accountant to join them.

This Chief Accountant role will be instrumental in the development of financial plans and strategies, revenue budgets, capital programmes and providing financial management support to directors.

  • Developing financial plans and strategies in order to align financial resources to corporate and service strategies and plans.
  • Co-ordination and Development of the Medium Term Financial Plan, Revenue Budget and Capital Programme. This will include reporting to the Executive, Scrutiny and Cabinet.
  • Co-ordinate and manage the preparation and monitoring of the Authorities capital strategy, budgets, funding and medium-term programme.
  • Act as the lead officer for borrowing and investments as well as co-ordinating and managing the preparation of the authorities Treasury Strategy.
  • Prepare & manage final accounts process and production, ensuring timely delivery of the Council's final account
  • Provide financial management support to Directors, including overseeing budget management support.
  • Ensure the management of the internal audit and the key point of contract for external auditors
  • Providing specialist financial support to a range of organisational change and development projects, such as capital developments, efficiency programmes etc.

  • Several years of proven relevant experience within a similar role
  • Sound technical knowledge and skillset to fulfil the above role
