Audit Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Audit Manager to ensure compliance with auditing standards and regulations within a dynamic audit department. This role involves managing the audit process efficiently by scheduling, planning, supervising, and reviewing assignments. The successful candidate will also build strong relationships with clients, anticipating their needs and identifying opportunities to cross-sell services that support their strategic and operational objectives.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Report directly to the Audit Partners and maintain general contact with clients, building close relationships as one of the main points of contact.
- Establish engagement objectives, including the issuance of engagement letters, timetables, and audit deliverables.
- Make general planning decisions regarding resourcing, staff objectives, timelines, budgetary review, and WIP monitoring.
- Maintain close review of the staff audit resourcing planner, collaborating with other audit managers and departments to meet the needs of the department and firm.
- Participate in or approve the detailed audit programming, risk assessment, and audit approach to mitigate risks.
- Coordinate the scheduling of audit work with client activities and requirements.
- Assign audit seniors, assistants, and specialists for fieldwork, meet their training needs, provide guidance, and supervise their work to address queries during assignments.
- Review all planning aspects, working papers, fieldwork, and completion work to prepare the audit file for partner review.
- Discuss and resolve all contentious points in auditing, accounting, or accounts disclosure, seeking specialist assistance where required.
- Review and approve internal control/management letters, audit reports, follow-up letters, and other written communications before issuing to clients.
- Assist Partners in billing clients for services rendered, monitor WIP processes, and provide WIP reports to partners.
- Prepare costing and quotes for assignments and prepare tender documentation as necessary.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Qualified ACA or ACCA with a minimum of 4 years post-qualification experience.
- Proven experience in audit management, preferably with an audit team of over 10 persons.
- Experience managing a portfolio of clients with total fee income exceeding £700,000.
- Extensive experience in the preparation of accounts and audit of owner-managed companies across various industry sectors.
- Proficiency in FRS 102 and IFRS accounting frameworks.
- Up-to-date knowledge of financial reporting, auditing standards, and company law.
- Experience in larger firms (e.g., Top 30) is advantageous.
- Knowledge of CCH, Caseware, Microsoft Office (especially Excel), Sage, QuickBooks, and Xero software is beneficial.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in English.
- Good time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
