Assistant Buyer

The purpose and scope of this position is to assist the Buyer with the procurement, management and communication of all aspects of the purchasing relationship with the relevant suppliers, be they central stock and/or direct suppliers, ensuring that products are available and offered at competitive prices.

Job Responsibilities:

  • To work with the Buyer to help support all aspects of the purchasing relationship between our client and the supplier; when requested act as the primary contact, should we need to assist other departments.

  • To be responsible for allocated supplier accounts and maintain excellent professional working relationships at all times with key counter parts.

  • To work with the Buyer to ensure that the annual trading terms are negotiated and agreed (in conjunction with the Head of Purchasing) before the start of the new trading year – 1st April.

  • To work with the Buyer to obtain approval for warehouse ranges from the Head of Purchasing and CEO prior to finalisation before the 31st January of each year. Undertake regular product performance reviews with the Buyer and suppliers to agree necessary actions to maximise turnover.

  • To work with the Buyer to ensure that all purchase orders are raised by the Stock Controllers/Assistant in a timely manner.

  • To work with the Buyer to ensure accurate forecasting, conducting a weekly review of stock requirements, by line, and agreeing intake plans with suppliers.

  • Have the ability to raise POs and inbounds to cover for the PAs when and if required to support team absences.

  • Have a thorough understanding of pricing structures and the ability to maintain pricing in SAP when and if required to support team absences.

  • Be responsible for all financial management of allocated supplier accounts, including but not limited to:

  • stock losses/gains;

  • pricing condition funding; and o promotion account spend.

  • To work with the Buyer to ensure that the central stock turnover target is met based on an agreed target with the Buyer, Head of Purchasing and CEO.

  • To work with the Buyer to ensure that the stock value in the warehouses is maintained at or below a level agreed with the Head of Purchasing.

  • Maintain aged stock at or below a level agreed with the Buyer and Head of Purchasing.

  • Work with the Buyer to ensure that the stock turn in the warehouses is maintained at or above a rate agreed with the Head of Purchasing.

To liaise with the Buyer to ensure that sufficient stock is on order to meet stock coverage requirements and that the bookings agreed with suppliers meet this requirement.

Previous Experience/Qualifications:

Ideally you will be degree educated with a qualification in marketing, maths, physics or a similar field.

Previous shop/retail buying experience is essential along with the ability to review competitor information and analyse data, presenting findings via reports and presentations to all levels of the business.

A passion for the purchasing environment is essential.
