Hours: 39 weeks per year (term time + training days)

The Role

The Academy is seeking to appoint a conscientious, diligent and highly organised Attendance and Safeguarding Manager to be an important part of their Pastoral support team. Your role will include supporting the work of the pastoral and safeguarding team to ensure excellent attendance and punctuality across the academy.

Your primary role will be to work closely with key staff, parents and student to overcome barriers to attendance. Working closely with the Pastoral team in school you will also work with external agencies where appropriate to identify concerns and develop individual action plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as Attendance Officer for the Academy
  • Liaise with and develop the working practices of the Heads of Year in relation to attendance issues
  • Carry out Home Visits for hard to reach parents and children with low attendance
  • Provide accurate and detailed reports of home visits
  • Schedule and conduct attendance panel meetings to determine reasons for absence and to set individual action plan.
  • Work in Partnership with the Pastoral Manager and Deputy Headteacher PDBW to support Team Around the Child (TAC) process through engagement with families and wide range of agencies
  • Report any safeguarding concerns to the Deputy Headteacher PDBW and provide detailed reports for any referrals
  • Use SIMS effectively and analyse attendance data to identify patterns of absence, persistent absence and absence patterns of particular groups and set appropriate action of improvements
  • Provide support to the DSL for the Academy with assessing information provided by staff and take appropriate action if necessary, making a referral to Children's Services as required.
  • Ensure that concerns are logged and shared with relevant staff and securely stored on the data management system.
  • Monitor absence lesson by lesson and raise any concerns immediately with regards to the whereabouts of a child and act in accordance with the Academy policy
  • Maintain accurate records and provide attendance reports as required
  • Offer pastoral support to students and parents and liaise with Academy staff and external agencies to resolve issues

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience of dealing with safeguarding issues
  • Experience in the use of IT
  • Experience of working in a multi-agency arena
  • GCSE English and Maths grade (A-C) or equivalent experience
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and internet
  • Excellent organization, time management and administrative skills
  • Outstanding communication skills in dealing with students, staff, parents and external agencies and stakeholders
  • A high degree of emotional intelligence with the ability to rapidly analyse and evaluate situations and effectively apply de-escalation techniques
