Head of IT

Our client is a junior mining house based in West London that is developing an asset in Africa. With operations spanning across multiple geographic locations, including both a head office and a mine site, they pride themselves on their commitment to technological advancement and operational efficiency.

As the Head of IT, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of information technology and digital transformation initiatives across the organization. Reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer (COO), you will play a pivotal role in driving innovation, enhancing cybersecurity measures, and ensuring seamless IT operations at both the head office and mine site.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic IT Leadership:

  • Develop and implement an IT strategy aligned with the company's overall objectives and operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with senior management to identify and prioritize IT initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and support business growth.

IT Infrastructure Management:

  • Conduct the analysis, management and maintenance of current and future IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, and telecommunications systems.
  • Ensure robust disaster recovery and business continuity plans are in place to mitigate risks and minimize downtime.

Cybersecurity and Risk Management:

  • Implement and enforce cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive company data and systems from internal and external threats.
  • Conduct regular security audits and risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and develop strategies for improvement.

IT Operations and Support:

  • Provide leadership to the IT team, overseeing day-to-day operations and ensuring timely resolution of technical issues.
  • Establish service level agreements (SLAs) and performance metrics to measure IT service delivery and support effectiveness.

Vendor and Budget Management:

  • Manage relationships with IT vendors and service providers to ensure quality service delivery and cost-effective solutions.
  • Develop and manage the IT budget, ensuring allocation of resources aligns with strategic priorities and financial guidelines.

Compliance and Regulatory Requirements:

  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and data protection laws, keeping abreast of regulatory changes that impact IT operations.
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to implement policies and procedures that mitigate legal and regulatory risks.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in a senior IT leadership role within a complex organization, preferably in the mining or heavy industry sector.
  • Strong understanding of mining operations and associated IT challenges (e.g., remote locations, operational technology).
  • Demonstrated expertise in IT infrastructure management, cybersecurity, and digital transformation.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and influence strategic decision-making.
