Reed Engineering are currently working with a leading special purpose machinery manufacturer who are looking to recruit a Cost Engineer. This role involves preparing, analysing, and maintaining standard product costs and estimates for manufacturing, including production engineering support duties. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of all cost estimates and manufacturing processes.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Identify and quantify cost factors such as production time, materials, and labour rates.
- Interpret drawings and technical documents to prepare cost estimates.
- Collaborate closely with procurement and sales departments, and directly with suppliers, to derive accurate costs and complete internal quote requests.
- Liaise with engineering to establish the best manufacturing processes, including for new product development.
- Ensure all methods of manufacture and costs are up to date due to engineering change requests, new part number creation, or product introductions.
- Support the Production Control department in planning and scheduling machine, aftermarket component, and assembly orders.
- Engage in Lean, Kaizen, and Continuous Improvement initiatives to reduce costs and enhance efficiency.
- Actively participate in regular reviews to address non-conformances and develop preventative measures for effective resolution.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Ability to understand and interpret technical drawings.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent analytical and organisational skills.
- Knowledge of welding, fabrication, and machining processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Excel, and adept at using computer systems to derive costs and construct methods of manufacture (BoMs and Routings).
- Ability to work under pressure with meticulous attention to detail.
- A formal qualification in engineering or manufacturing is preferred.
