Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for a Regional Court Independent Domestic Violence Advisor on behalf of our client, a Community Domestic Abuse Support Service for women in the West Midlands.
This is a full-time permanent role, 37.5 hours (Monday - Friday 9am-5pm), that will require travel across the Black Country region.
The post is paying £24,310.04 - £27,751.55 (dependent upon qualifications and experience).
Main duties and responsibilities
- Focus on and prioritise supporting clients who are going through the criminal justice system ensuring they understand the criminal justice processes and systems. Provide pro-active, short to medium term crisis interventions to increase their personal safety (and that of any children) and inform them of their rights and options in terms safety measures and protective orders available to them.
- Attending the specialist domestic violence courts to hear DVA cases. Liaising with partner agencies to obtain details of the victim where contact can be made and support can be offered. Update on upcoming court hearings and outcomes in their absence. Provide direct casework support, advice, information and empowerment to individuals experiencing DVA through telephone contact and face to face meetings & court attendance.
- Advocate for and work with the victims of domestic abuse to help them access services to keep them and their children safe. To communicate the outcomes of court proceedings internally, and partner agencies where required to ensure that the voice of victims is heard within the criminal justice system. To advocate on behalf of victims before, during and after court proceedings
- To case work and offer support to clients who only require support through the criminal justice system identifying and assessing the risks and needs of domestic abuse victims using an evidence-based risk identification checklist. Ensuring all needs have been met and risk has been assessed before they departure the service making onward referrals where necessary.
- Take referrals via drop-ins and telephone contact, gathering information regarding the victim and their circumstances, assessing the information, agreeing needs and identifying risk.
Person Specification
- IDVA qualification or direct experience of working in domestic/sexual violence.
- Qualification or training equivalent to minimum level 3 education standard in a relevant topic, such as health and social care.
- Experience of working with vulnerable adults and children, acknowledging safeguarding concerns and responding appropriately.
- Experience of managing complex casework, including issues such as child abuse, mental health, substance abuse, working with trauma in adults and children and crisis intervention.
- Experiencing of working within a supportive setting for vulnerable people, providing direct support and a needs led service, undertaking risk and needs assessments and support planning, using a variety of intervention tools.
- Experience of taking referrals for services, gathering information regarding the victim and their circumstances, assessing the information, agreeing needs and identifying risk, understanding the right service to refer on to.

- May require some work outside of normal office hours
- Full driving license with willingness to use own vehicle
- DBS check to be undertaken
- Eligibility to work in the UK
