Leading entrepreneurial international law firm seeks a new Head of Legal Risk to join their London office.

The Head of Conflicts will act as an ambassador for the firm's risk and compliance culture and standards and advise the firm, Management Board, the partnership and Finance, IT and HR departments on risk issues affecting the business.

Key Responsibilities of the Head of Legal Risk:

  • Formulating the strategy, vision and values of the Risk & Compliance function.
  • Deputise for the Risk & Compliance Partner and liaises with the firm's SRA Relationship Manager when required.
  • Manage the Risk Legal Team and oversees implementation of policies and procedures by Risk & Compliance Officers.
  • Lead on horizon scanning and drafting and updating Risk policies and procedures accordingly.
  • Act as lead counsel on all matters of risk, compliance and ethics.
  • Assist Risk & Compliance Partner, COLP/GC and PI partner in investigating and dealing with complaints and conduct issues.
  • Work with the firm's Marketing & Business Development team in managing reputation risk.
  • Promote and foster a "compliance culture" across the firm.
  • Take a proactive role in the selection and scheduling of compulsory risk and compliance training.
  • Represents the firm at external risk management networking events and conferences.
  • Analyses risk and compliance data to support business decision making.

Key Requirements of the Head of Legal Risk:

  • Experience of working within the legal sector essential – preferably in private practice.
  • Qualified lawyer, with 10 years' + PQE.
  • Experience of making commercial business decisions and advising at Board level.
  • Leadership and management of a team essential.
  • Detailed knowledge of the SRA Handbook, especially the Code of Conduct.
  • Excellent written legal skills, including the ability to draft and review policies, procedures, terms of engagement and contracts with third parties.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of relevant areas of law and procedure, especially contract and tort.
  • Strong organisational and IT skills.
  • Experience of providing training, and of dealing with claims and complaints.
