What ASEND Tuition Is

We are looking for compassionate Tutors to support children and young people with SEND in Barking. We support pupils with SEND who are not attending school for a number of reasons including Mental Health issues, lack of a suitable school place or waiting for a school place. We aim to prepare them for a return to mainstream or special school.

We support pupils of all ages face-to-face within school times, and in a range of settings including homes, schools, community centres and out in the community. Our tuition is completely pupil-focused and can target developing early learning, following an academic curriculum, providing emotional support or developing life skills. We need a wide range of tutors to support our pupils and to help them meet their specific needs and ensure good progress. We work very hard to match each person with pupils who can most benefit from their skills and expertise.

About The Pupil

Our pupil is a 12 year old boy who is non-verbal and has speech and language needs. He has made a lot of progress on developing his communication skills and in expressing his emotions, but needs some more support to develop these further. He can become distressed when he is not able to take an object he wants with him. Despite these challenges, he is a happy young man who loves playing on his iPad, enjoying the outdoors, music, helping out and tidying up!

An ideal tutor for this young person would be someone who has knowledge of Makaton and PECS, as a key goal is to develop non-verbal communication skills. Someone calm and patient would be a great fit, to help bring our pupil some consistency and stability. Someone who is able to teach him strategies to help regulate his emotions would also be essential.

About you:

  • You'll have experience with SEN: non-verbal ASD, demand avoidance, severe learning difficulties, Makaton and PECS
  • You may be an experienced tutor or teacher or have experience working with children in a therapeutic way
  • You'll have a passion for helping pupils overcome any barriers to learning and difficulties with engagement
  • You'll be good at building rapport and strong relationships with children and their families - we work closely with families to create a plan
  • Ideally, have some experience of helping children with their learning
  • Have the ability to motivate and inspire pupils
  • Use a person-centred approach in their work
  • Make the wellbeing, achievement, and progress of your pupils central to everything that you plan and do
  • Have the determination and energy to bring about continuous improvement.

Benefits:

  • Generous and competitive rates of pay with a pay structure to increase your pay
  • Opportunities for professional development
  • Friendly support and guidance to enable you to meet the individual needs of learners and to ensure that you feel confident in your position
  • Training in working with children with SEND
  • Option to arrange work around the existing schedule
  • Join a friendly and supportive team

At ASEND you will always be well supported by our highly qualified and experienced team and well-remunerated for your work.
