  • Level & Responsibility: This role is at a Senior Manager level joining our engineering team and providing technical leadership to more junior Developers
  • Salary: £60,000+ per annum, depending on experience, and our 10% discretionary bonus
  • Location & Hybrid Working: Either London or Leeds, a minimum of 2 days in the office per week

The role

We are looking for a Full Stack Senior JavaScript Developer to join our central engineering team at SMG. As Senior JavaScript Developer you will take ownership of tickets assigned to you and deal with them end-to-end, managing the design, implementation and delivery of the request. You will be responsible for the architecture of new features and for maintaining the technical quality standards within the Developer team. You will also be a point of contact and learning for the rest of the team, coaching and guiding them within their roles and development.

Why you?

  • Significant experience delivering at a senior developer level.
  • Deep knowledge of the TypeScript and/or JavaScript languages and related frameworks. Must include React, node.js (or both).
  • Practical and real world experience working with databases, ideally MongoDB.
  • Practical experience of delivering in an agile environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Deep understanding of software tools and practices, including git, pull requests, code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD etc.
  • Good understanding of security and performance considerations.
  • Comfortable with deploying a web app in AWS (optional).

What you'll be doing

  • Design & build web applications using TypeScript and JavaScript. Our tech stack includes React, node.js. MongoDB, AWS.
  • Contribute code across the full stack of the web application.
  • Provide technical leadership to more junior developers.
  • Take responsibility for technical quality standards within the developer team.
  • Define the code architecture for new features.
  • Take initiatives that improve code quality and user experience.
  • Work closely with the product team to ensure the high quality of tickets.

The process

  1. We will invite you to a first interview which we try to keep relatively informal, so it gives you the opportunity to share your authentic self. The hiring team will be looking to understand more about your experience and why you're interested in working with us.
  2. There will be a second interview which will last a little longer, and involve some form of task to showcase your ability to do the role.
  3. We then invite you to a meet & greet which is an opportunity for you to meet the team you'll be joining and ask them questions about the role and wider business.
