Operations Manager
We are currently seeking a dynamic and motivated Operations Manager with a background in fresh food products to join a successful team. The ideal candidates will be from a Food Production / Manufacturing /Operations or farm management background. As an Operations Manager, you will play a key role in overseeing the planning, organisation, and management of our production processes, ensuring the highest quality standards are met.
As an Operations Manager your job will require you to:
- Lead and manage the production team, including pickers and packers, to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
- Provide clear guidance and performance targets to operatives and ensure they understand how this contributes to the business
- Develop and implement strategic plans to optimise production processes and improve overall efficiency.
- Train, coach, and mentor supervisors to enhance their leadership and management skills, ultimately improving pick rates.
- Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards throughout the production process.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as procurement and logistics, to ensure timely delivery of products.
- Ensure New Pickers & Placers following relevant safe systems of work and Safe operating procedure.
- Attend the daily operations meeting to plan people, yields, houses and hours of work for the following day.
- Encourage positive and cohesive teamwork to hit picking targets for the day.
- Liaise with the Harvesting Team Leaders, Harvesting Supervisors, Growing Manager, Production Manager & Engineering Manager with any issues with team members, yields, Machinery.
- Monitor and evaluate picking statistics on an ongoing basis. Ensure that all harvesters achieve the minimum targets and use the disciplinary procedure where necessary.
- Monitor production performance, analyse data, and identify areas for improvement.
- Manage staffing levels and schedule shifts to meet business needs, including weekend work and overtime during peak periods.
About you as the Operations Manager
- Previous experience in a production management role, preferably in the agri-food industry
- Strong background in fresh food products is highly desirable.
- Experience of successfully managing and leading a team within a production / manufacturing environment.
- Food production / fresh food experience would be desirable.
- Proven management style focused on coaching, mentoring and inspiring.
- A track record of delivering on productivity, quality and performance.
- Experience of lean, continuous improvement and change management.
- Managing Health and safety
- Proven track record in strategic thinking and implementing process improvements.
- Excellent people management and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
