Job Purpose

We are looking for a qualified actuary to support the Annuities Valuation team, currently eight in number. The role will be to provide support to the Team Leader in managing the team responsible for calculating statutory reserves and capital for the UK Annuities Business. The role works closely with other teams within the Finance Accounting & Reporting department, as well as the Financial Planning and Analysis, Actuarial Support, Pricing and Risk functions.

Key Accountabilities

  • Calculation, analysis and explanation of Solvency II / IFRS17 technical reserves and capital on both a UK and Canadian basis.
  • Embedding of new bulk annuity schemes (pensioners and deferred) within BAU reporting
  • Supporting the calculation of reinsurance accounts
  • Maintenance and development of valuation processes and models
  • Contribute to Canadian and UK profit and loss assessment for the UK Annuities business
  • Produce/Support experience analyses and set assumptions and impacts within a valuation basis
  • Technical and actuarial support to the Annuities Business Unit
  • Management of a team of actuarial students and support staff

Desired Knowledge / Experience / Skills

  • Qualified actuary with some relevant pre/post-qualification experience
  • Strong technical and analytical skills
  • Understand the need for a robust control framework
  • A team player able to work under pressure and to deliver to tight timescales
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to communicate technical content to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Should be highly motivated and committed to continual process improvement
  • Ability to plan work and lead actuarial projects
  • Experience of financial modelling software
  • Knowledge of annuities markets and reinsurance. Knowledge and experience of immediate and deferred bulk annuities highly desirable but not essential.
