We are inviting applications for the role of Autism Teacher for a primary class at a dedicated SEND school in Bristol. This is a long-term, full-time position commencing in September. The successful candidate will be an integral part of our team, providing specialised education to students with autism spectrum disorders. We are looking for a compassionate individual with a commitment to inclusive education and the ability to tailor learning experiences to meet the diverse needs of our students.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Design and implement individualised educational plans (IEPs) to meet the specific needs of students with autism.
  • Employ a range of teaching strategies, including visual aids and sensory integration, to enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Collaborate with other educational professionals, including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists, to support student development.
  • Foster a structured and supportive classroom environment that accommodates the sensory and communication needs of students with autism.
  • Regularly assess and record student progress, adapting teaching methods to facilitate continuous improvement.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians, providing updates on student progress and collaborating on strategies to support learning at home.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent, with a focus on Special Education Needs (SEN).
  • Experience working with students with autism or related disorders.
  • Knowledge of autism teaching strategies and behavioural management techniques.
  • Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and safeguarding procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for teaching and supporting students with additional needs.
