Mechanic - Fleet Services

We are seeking a skilled Mechanic to join our Fleet Services team, focusing on the service and repair of plant equipment. The role demands a safe, efficient, and economic approach to maintenance and repair tasks. The ideal candidate will have a Level 3 qualification in plant maintenance or equivalent, with experience in a fleet workshop or garage.
Day to Day of the role:
- Drive and manoeuvre plant as necessary, recover defective or damaged equipment, and carry out a full range of technical checks and diagnostic tests.
- Recognise and report on plant component defects or systems at risk of failure, assess, record, and/or cost the repair as appropriate.
- Conduct routine inspections, service, and repairs of selected plant in the fleet according to schedules, maintaining high-quality standards.
- Examine equipment and report on condition, roadworthiness, and safety both verbally and in writing.
- Perform mechanical and electrical repairs and adjustments as required, adhering to prescribed quality standards.
- Interpret and implement technical service instruction data and manufacturers' modifications.
- Maintain personal tool kit, special tools, and equipment in a secure and safe condition.
- Be prepared to work outside of normal working hours and participate in the departmental standby rota.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Hold a Level 3 qualification in plant maintenance or an equivalent alternative.
- Experience working in a fleet workshop or garage.
- Understanding of Health & Safety Policy and its application to workplace safety.
- Proficiency in diagnosing mechanical faults and using electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Good written and verbal communication, liaison, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and to plan, organise, and prioritise work within tight timescales.
- Confidence in responding to customers and colleagues with understanding and diplomacy while maintaining an objective and professional stance.
- Ability to remain calm and positive in challenging circumstances and cope with fluctuating workloads.
