About the role:

LKAB Minerals UK are looking for an experienced Assistant Quarry Manager to join the company to support in the management of our Quarry and Production facility at LKAB Minerals Wicken site.

As Assistant Quarry Manager on a day-to-day basis, you will take a hands-on approach to site as you will monitor and manage all site activities relating to the excavation from the Limestone Quarry to the processing through the production facility onsite.

The role will be responsible for promoting and maintaining Health and Safety onsite, and ensuring the site are working in line with relevant legislation, quality, and environment standards and to LKAB Safe Working Procedures. The role will embody LKAB's Safety First Culture.

The role will be instrumental as the incumbent will be Section 8 Responsible Person at the Wicken site.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the extraction of raw material by means of excavator and managing the third-party excavation processes or load and haul activities.
  • Knowledge of extracted minerals and relevant applications for processing onsite to support site personnel.
  • Responsible for planning permission related restrictions, discharge licencing, hour of operation implications and restoration phasing/works
  • Understanding of the Quarry Regulations 1999 acting as Section 8 responsible person
  • Maintain Standard Operating Procedures for site, appropriate risk assessments and permit to work control.
  • Responsible for supporting the management and development of the production team onsite, ensuring they are appropriately trained and competent to deliver on site
  • You will support continuous improvement initiatives and lean working practices onsite
  • Reporting and investigating any accidents, incidents, near misses or hazards to Synergy platform
  • Assist with the financial and operational KPI performance of the site in line with budget requirements

Candidate requirements:

  • NVQ SHE Level 4 in Health and Safety essential,
  • MQPC Level 3 Geotechnical training or Equivalent is Essential
  • Quarry Regulations Training / Experience
  • Mobile Plant Supervisory Experience
  • IOSH/NEBOSH Managing Safety

Education Experience or Qualifications in the following areas would be advantageous:

  • Management of excavation areas and land works operatives (eg. Creasey's, Webb's Stokeys)
  • Management of Hot Works, Working at Heights, Confined Spaces and Permit to Work Operations
  • Understanding of Integrated Management Systems and their maintenance requirements
  • Basic mechanical engineering understanding and experience and understanding of maintenance tasks
