Procurement, Supply Chain and Logistics Manager

Tate is exclusively recruiting a Procurement and Logistics Manager for a Hitchin-based manufacturing business.

In this pivotal role, you will oversee and manage the entire supply chain process, from raw material procurement to final product delivery. Your responsibilities include optimising supply chain operations, ensuring efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and timely product delivery, all while maintaining high-quality standards. Additionally, you'll lead a small team responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the Purchasing and Logistics functions of the business.

The company operates as an individual trading entity but owned by a large group, proudly serving as a UK manufacturer of entrance solutions known for their innovation and durability.

With over 100 years of evolution, the business is entering an exciting growth phase under new leadership, with substantial investments planned in people, equipment, and technology.

The in-house production team crafts bespoke and stock items of the highest quality, ready for distribution and export to UK and worldwide customers all seamlessly managed under one roof.

Key Responsibilities of the Manufacturing Procurement and Logistics Manager:

Procurement:

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies to ensure timely material availability.
  • Monitor supplier performance and manage supplier risk.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with suppliers, ensuring demand for materials is met and deliveries are punctual.
  • Contribute to supplier meetings and negotiations.
  • Collaborate closely with the Purchasing team to maximise purchasing strategies.

Inventory Management:

  • Oversee inventory levels to maintain optimal stock levels and minimise holding costs.
  • Implement inventory control procedures and manage inventory forecasting.
  • Take overall responsibility for handling obsolete parts, minimising liability and waste.
  • Ensure accurate inventory records through regular audits.
  • Address any issues related to Material Requirement Planning (MRP) and related IT systems (ERP).

Logistics and Distribution:

  • Manage logistics operations, including warehousing, transportation, and distribution.
  • Optimise logistics processes to reduce costs and improve delivery times.
  • Coordinate with third-party logistics providers for efficient and reliable distribution.

Quality Assurance:

  • Implement and maintain quality control processes across the supply chain.
  • Ensure all materials and products meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Address quality issues promptly and implement corrective actions.

Cost Management:

  • Develop and manage the supply chain budget.
  • Monitor expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Implement cost-effective procurement and logistics strategies.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Drive initiatives to enhance supply chain efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Utilise Lean, Six Sigma, or other methodologies to identify and eliminate waste.
  • Implement best practices and innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure on-time materials availability without disrupting production.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Generate regular reports on supply chain metrics, covering procurement, inventory, and logistics.

About you!

  • CIPS Qualified: Possess a Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) qualification.
  • Relevant practical experience: Demonstrate experience in procurement, supply chain, and logistics.
  • Project Management: Familiarity with project management principles.
  • IT Proficiency: Proficient in using IT systems, including ERP systems.
  • Team Management: Ability to lead and manage a small team effectively.
  • Excellent Communication: Strong communication skills to engage with stakeholders and collaborate across various topics.
  • Solution-Oriented: Approach challenges with a solutions-focused mindset.
  • Accountability: Willingness to take responsibility for tasks and outcomes.

You can expect:

  • Salary: Starting salary based on experience, with potential for growth as your role and the business evolve.
  • Employment Type: Full-time, permanent position with opportunities for career progression.
  • Working Hours: Standard hours are 08:30-17:00 (Monday to Thursday) and 08:30-16:00 (Friday). Flexibility may be required to meet job requirements.
  • Leave: 23 days of annual leave per year, in addition to Bank Holidays.
  • Pension: Auto Enrolment Pension scheme available after 3 months of employment.
  • Location: In Hitchin, where free parking is available. On site every day. Sorry, no hybrid.
