Head of Business Development : Carlisle - remote / hybrid
Salary: £60,000 - £90,000 + bonus, car, etc.
Remote based - approx. with occasional visit to Carlisle

MacArthur Recruitment are looking for an experienced Head of Business Development to work for a successful company based in Carlisle who are involved with engineering and construction projects nationally. This is a remote role, working from a home office. Realistically you could be based anywhere from the Midlands to the North West or North East of England, travelling to clients and head office as required. Package is flexible and negotiable.

As Head of Business Development you'll take ownership of driving forward business development activity and sales projects in the UK and Europe; identifying new business, improve profitability and help the business grow as well as motivating and inspiring the sales team.

Your background will be from either construction, engineering or similar and you'll be experienced working with architects, consultants, construction contractors as well as internally as part of the Senior Management Team. You will have a proven record of hitting targets and will be joining a small and passionate team who are happy to help each other out so you must have a sense of humour, be personable and accept that things won't always go to plan!

Key responsibilities for the role of Head of Business Development :

  • To develop the business and its brand recognition across the UK and Europe
  • Research and identify new business
  • Build and maintain strong relationships
  • Work strategically, develop and implement the business sales and marketing strategy
  • Lead, motivate and inspire the small UK sales and marketing team to achieve targets
  • Continue to build fruitful and lasting relationships
  • Develop local partnerships
  • Analyse market trends and competitive landscape
  • Recommend pricing policy based on competitive advantage and updated knowledge of the market place.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences and trade shows
  • Prepare and present to senior management, board members and prospective clients
  • Monitor and evaluate business development activities, track progress against targets, and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Stay informed about industry regulations, standards, and best practices
  • Lead customer negotiations with clear communication
  • Take a proactive approach to courtesy calling to ensure they are happy with the product.
  • Provide valuable contribution to the defining of sales budgets, volume and pricing forecasts, producing annual sales forecasts to assist with commercial planning.
  • Prepare accurate site surveys.

Education or qualifications for the role of Head of Business Development :

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant area e.g., Business, Marketing, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering - desirable

Experience and skills required for the role of Head of Business Development :

  • A proven track record of business development within the construction industry and an ability to sell highly technical products, with experience of working with architects and consultants, in order to be successfully specified.
  • Familiarity with building layout drawings and technical specification documents
  • A network of contacts in our target markets e.g., leading architects and design construction consultants
  • A proactive approach and be self-motivated to achieve sales targets and objectives
  • Ability to develop rapport and professional relationships with managers, staff and external parties.
  • Attention to detail and strong organisation skills.
