Wellbeing Tutor SEN School

Posted by DUNBAR EDUCATION RECRUITMENT LIMITED.

About the Role:
Dunbar Education is proud to partner with a dedicated SEN school that supports students aged 11-16 who face social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. The Wellbeing Tutor role is vital in helping students overcome these barriers, enabling them to engage in education meaningfully and fostering positive behavioural development. This position is ideal for a nurturing, patient, and empathetic professional committed to providing individualised support for young people with complex needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Academic and Emotional Support: Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to plan and deliver high-quality lessons and activities that encourage students to make consistent academic and emotional progress.
  • Targeted Intervention: Conduct off-site one-to-one sessions and small group interventions designed to build confidence, address specific learning needs, and improve students' attitudes towards education and personal development.
  • Safeguarding and Wellbeing: Prioritise safeguarding, ensuring all policies are fully implemented to protect and promote students' wellbeing. Develop a deep understanding of each student's needs, recognising early signs of distress and responding with empathy and professionalism.
  • Individualised Support Strategies: Apply tailored strategies that support social, emotional, and behavioural growth, especially for students with additional needs such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and social communication difficulties.
  • Behaviour Management: Implement positive behaviour management techniques, following each student's Behaviour Support Plan, to foster a supportive learning environment. Reinforce respectful behaviour and encourage self-regulation through consistent guidance.
  • Mentorship and Keyworker Duties: Act as a mentor and, where required, a keyworker to individual students, building trust and a positive rapport. Engage in goal-setting with students to inspire aspirations for learning and personal success.
  • Break and Lunchtime Supervision: Supervise students during breaks and lunchtimes, creating opportunities for positive social interaction and promoting self-esteem through respectful communication.
  • Record Keeping and Observations: Maintain detailed and accurate records, completing observations, risk assessments, and support plans as needed to track each student's progress and identify areas for additional support.
  • Resource and Environment Preparation: Prepare learning materials, create engaging classroom displays, and organise resources that foster a welcoming and stimulating learning environment.
  • Professional Development: Commit to ongoing learning through professional training and collaborative planning, ensuring the continuous improvement of support strategies and safeguarding knowledge.
  • Family and External Agency Collaboration: Work closely with families and external support agencies to understand each student's home environment and additional needs, aligning support efforts for continuity and consistency in the student's progress.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Empathetic and Patient: A compassionate professional with a genuine commitment to supporting young people facing SEMH challenges, showing patience and resilience in all interactions.
  • Behaviour Management Expertise: Strong understanding of positive behaviour management techniques, able to adapt strategies for a range of complex needs.
  • Team-Oriented and Collaborative: Thrives in a collaborative team environment, working effectively with other staff members to create a unified approach to support.
  • Proactive and Reflective: Continuously reflects on support methods, proactively seeking ways to improve student engagement and behavioural outcomes.
