School Pastoral/Welfare Officer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Pastoral Lead to join a school in Liverpool. We are looking for a passionate and inspired Attendance and Medical Officer to join the pastoral support team and work closely with the admin team. This role is ideal for a registered nurse wanting to work with children, a teaching assistant who has a particular interest in supporting the welfare and attendance of young children or an administrator who is looking to take the next step in their career.

The successful candidate will be someone who:

  • Is compassionate and has a genuine interest in developing strong relationships with adults and children
  • Is aware of health issues and has an interest in supporting all children to attend school regularly
  • Has a clear commitment to improvement and has excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills to engage the wider community of the school.

The role:

  • To adhere to all safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure that children are kept safe at all times.
  • Provide support and advice to pupils to promote their social care and personal development.
  • Deliver targeted interventions to individuals and groups to support their wellbeing.
  • Assist in resolving relationship issues between pupils.
  • Liaise with parents and carers in relation to individual pupil needs.
  • Facilitate the sharing of information between the school and external agencies.
  • Promote a whole school approach to attendance and support in devising strategies and action plans for pupils whose attendance is falling.
  • Support Attendance Officer when needed to follow up lack of response to first day contact by home visits, phone calls or meeting with parents/carers in school.
  • Develop links with pupils who are transferring into the school and their families to promote the school Mission and Ethos.
  • Oversee the medical area and provide first aid where needed including administering medicines and providing medical support to pupils.
  • Control medicines within the school and maintain the medical register.
  • Monitor and maintain first aid and pupil medication stock levels within the school.
  • Liaise with nurse or external agencies on medical programmes, such as immunisation.
  • Maintain records of accidents and injuries for pupils, staff and visitors.
  • Notify parents/carers of medical incidents/emergencies
  • Advise staff on appropriate first aid and pupil medication for outside the school premises (such as educational visits)
