Deputy Manager

We are currently recruiting for a residential children's home located in the picturesque town of Leiston, near the Suffolk Coast. Their mission is to provide a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment for children aged 9-17 who experience social, emotional, mental health, and behavioural difficulties. Their 4-bed home offers personalised care and support, aiming to help each child achieve their full potential.

Role Overview: As the Deputy Manager, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Home Manager to ensure the smooth running of the home. You will oversee the daily operations, manage staff, and provide high-quality care to our children. Your responsibilities will include administrative tasks, staff supervision, and direct engagement with the children to foster a positive and therapeutic environment.

Hours:

  • Office Days: 3 days per week, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm
  • Shifts: 2 shifts per week, hours to be arranged

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Home Manager in the overall management of the home
  • Oversee and coordinate care plans tailored to each child's needs
  • Manage and support a team of care staff, ensuring high standards of practice
  • Conduct staff supervisions, appraisals, and training
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and statutory requirements
  • Engage in direct work with the children, providing emotional and practical support
  • Liaise with external agencies, professionals, and families
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures
  • Monitor and report on the home's performance, including incident management
  • Participate in the on-call rota as required
  • To manage petty cash and purchasing as necessary
  • To provide on-call support on a rotational basis

Requirements:

  • Education: Level 3 or 4 qualifications in working with children and young people
  • Experience: Significant experience in a residential childcare setting
  • Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
  • Driving Licence: Essential
  • Commitment: Willingness to work towards Level 5 in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare
  • Flexibility: Ability to work office hours and arranged shifts
