Classroom Support are currently recruiting on behalf of an amazing Special School in Harlow, CM18. The school is currently looking for multiple Teaching Assistants with the experience and positive attitude needed to support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in Key Stages 1-4 (ages 4-18).

Teaching Assistants are vital to the school to support students with SEN to enable these students and help remove any barriers to their learning. The school has a strong track-record of supporting children with SEN and it is largely in part due to the fantastic work that Teaching Assistants undertake everyday to support both the Classroom Teachers and pupils in class.

The school currently requires Teaching Assistants with experience in supporting students with various forms of SEN such as ASD, ADHD and SEMH. Classroom Assistants will have previous experience working with children with SEN in both 1:1 and group settings.

As a Teaching Assistant, you have a vital role to play in the classroom. You will be responsible for ensuring that pupils are motivated, understand the classroom materials and must make suitable adaptations/differentiate any classroom tasks that may be inaccessible for certain students. You will work alongside the classroom teacher to ensure that all students have the best possible chance of succeeding alongside their peers.

Working days are Monday-Friday, 8am to 4pm term-time only. To start in September 2024.

This is a temp to perm role - permanent contracts are available after you have completed 12 academic weeks.

Competitive rate of pay: £425-475 per week.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Support the classroom teacher - complete observations, give insight to the teacher about a pupil's progress and current needs and carry out delegated tasks.
  • Support SEN students on a 1:1 basis but also in small groups.
  • Use your knowledge of SEN to aid a pupil needing support.
  • Aid pupils in their learning; explain the current task, ensure they have all the equipment they need and help motivate them if needed.
  • Liaise with the SENCO/Inclusion manager to deliver SEN provision.

Candidate Requirements

  • Must have experience of working in a school in the past two years.
  • Must have experience working with students with SEN.
  • Must have or be willing to pay for an enhanced DBS (costs £52.20) and must be registered on the update service (£13 a year).
  • Advantageous to have previous tutoring/mentoring experience.
