Systems Engineer

  • Job Type: Contract (3 months)
  • Location: Birmingham - Hybrid 2 days a week on site
  • Salary: £250 - 400 per day inside IR35 Umbrella (this will be depending on experience)

Our client is currently seeking a Systems Engineer to join their engineering team. This role is integral to the planning, design, development, integration, commissioning, and testing of systems for broadcast projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering technology solutions that align with agreed specifications and will work closely with various stakeholders to create implementable solutions.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Collaborate within the engineering team on system planning, design, development, integration, commissioning, and testing.
  • Deliver technology solutions that meet the specifications for broadcast project elements.
  • Design media systems in conjunction with project, product, and technical leads, contractors, and manufacturers.
  • Participate in system operational development and support as required.
  • Drive technical innovation to meet business needs and functional requirements, ensuring system resilience.
  • Prepare project documentation and contribute to project plans.
  • Write and review test specifications and test plans, ensuring they are clear, concise, and cover all agreed functionality.
  • Take ownership of specific small project elements, meeting time, cost, and quality targets.
  • Conduct and oversee testing of new installations, maintaining accurate test logs/registers.
  • Stay informed about industry and competitor developments to facilitate the introduction of new technologies.
  • Liaise with project management and support staff for effective reporting.
  • Communicate technical information clearly to stakeholders, both verbally and in written form.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in the design, delivery, or support of technical systems within a media technology environment.
  • Systems engineering experience for operational criteria such as monitoring integration and performance testing.
  • Understanding of new and emerging technologies applicable within media technology projects.
  • Motivated and organised with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong communication and IT skills.
  • Ability to work in a diverse team and resolve technical issues.
  • Commitment to meeting deadlines and resilience in selecting the correct technical solutions.
  • Awareness of translating project, user, and product requirements into technical solutions.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of media/technology tools.
  • Understanding of web architecture and key technologies (HTTP, DNS).
  • Awareness of broadcast or datacentre infrastructure installations.
  • Experience with third-party service delivery or support in an engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of how media technology systems are supported operationally.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing disciplines (NaaS, SaaS, PaaS, IaaS) and IP technologies.
