Overall Purpose of the Job:

The Project Design Engineer will efficiently design and detail systems within budgeted hours and meet key deliverables for downstream processes. This role requires creating detailed engineering drawings, attending project meetings, and providing support to various teams to ensure project success.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design & Detailing:
  • Create, issue, and revise General Arrangement drawings, building modifications, structural steel frames, sorting equipment and supplementary steelwork, safety measures, hardware drawings, and configuration of standard products.

  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant BS EN ISO standards.

  1. Modeling and Documentation:
  • Create and update shared 3D Model environments.

  • Generate detailed drawings, Bill of Materials, and documentation required for manufacturing and installation.

  1. Project Management Support:
  • Attend contract handover meetings to document key points related to the project and design process.

  • Liaise with Project Managers to identify key deliverables, associated risks, and issues related to design, providing options to overcome these.

  • Maintain documented records of changes and identify project design creep.

  1. Customer and Site Interaction:
  • Support communication with local agents or customers.

  • Attend on-site meetings or site visits to verify measurements.

  1. Technical Liaison:
  • Liaise with structural engineers for approval of the main steel frame & platforms.

  • Specify and liaise with suppliers for bought-out equipment.

  • Provide design support to installation teams, including out-of-hours support.

  1. Documentation and Risk Assessment:
  • Create, issue, and update Project CBS documents.

  • Prepare installation documentation.

  • Conduct operational risk assessments in conjunction with the Project Manager.

Requirements:

Education and Qualifications:

  • Essential:ONC, NVQ level 3, HNC in a mechanical design engineering discipline.
  • Desirable:HND or higher in Mechanical Engineering.

Experience:

  • Essential:Experience with 2D & 3D CAD, light to medium engineered products, BS8888 drafting standards, and creating technical documentation.
  • Desirable:Experience with Tekla Structures, Solidworks, structural steelwork, Point Clouds, Autodesk Applications (AEC & MEP), and Trimble Connect.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Essential:Competency in using CAD systems for 2D and 3D outputs, detailed models, general layouts, and production drawings using Tekla Structures, knowledge of BS EN ISO standards, and proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Desirable:Competency in using Solidworks, Autodesk AEC or MEP application suites, and knowledge of Eurocodes.

Abilities and Personal Attributes:

  • Essential:Self-motivated, able to work well both independently and within a team, methodical and consistent work approach, attention to detail and accuracy, strong problem-solving skills, effective communication skills (both verbal and written), and good time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Desirable:Working knowledge of European languages, ideally German and French.

General/Other:

  • Essential:Valid passport, willingness to travel independently for short periods both in the UK and internationally, and a current valid driving license (manual gearbox preferred) with the ability to drive overseas and in the UK.
