Salary: £55,200 - £75,000 + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances, and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available.

As the Senior Energy Policy Manager for Industry Change, you will leverage your deep understanding of industry codes (such as CUSC, STC, SQSS), policy, and governance to ensure SSEN Transmission's strategic objectives are aligned with the evolving landscape of the energy sector. This encompasses assessing the effects of strategic energy planning, the establishment of an independent system operator, and energy code reforms. You will proactively identify and advocate for the necessary governance and code frameworks that support the transition to Net Zero, in accordance with the statutory duties of Ofgem, NESO, and DESNZ.

Travel would vary but would likely include monthly travel to other offices (Glasgow/Perth) and occasional travel to London.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Leading a holistic approach to code development you will actively engage with key stakeholders to gain a comprehensive understanding of the developmental and operational challenges, and where codes can be used to support.
  • Collaborating with subject matter experts in the designated focus areas, you will identify potential obstacles and positions to champion, all aimed at driving forward the initiatives that support our collective journey towards Net Zero.
  • Seeing the bigger picture, you will be clear about what each sector, including electricity, gas, heat and transport, need to achieve to deliver Net Zero. You will understand the linkage between each sector, how their associated codes and markets interact and whether they will help or hinder delivery of Net Zero.
  • Ongoing development and refinement of internal governance to provide assurance to the wider business when assessing risks, opportunities, and implementation requirements.
  • Act as a positive role model for all employees, ensure that employees are supported, developed and rewarded for their efforts, and encouraged to operate in line with the SSE Values.

About our Business

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • A thorough understanding of the GB Networks businesses and energy codes either from a networks, generation, or regulatory perspective.
  • Experience in technical policy and/ or codes as well as demonstrable ability to successfully advocate for changes
  • The ability to network both internally and externally to facilitate the development of stakeholders and key industry influencers.
  • A strong self-starter who can think creatively about solutions to challenging industry problems and back up recommendations with clear evidence with a proven track record of challenging the "status quo".
  • Experience of delivering within challenging timescales, with the ability to effectively prioritise, plan and organise, balancing immediate and longer-term business priorities.
