Deputy Head of Research Team

Overview

We are seeking a dynamic Deputy Head of Insight to join our growing Insight team. As the second in command, you will play a critical role in managing the production of high-quality research reports that provide actionable data and analytics on law firm performance. This position is ideal for a research professional who has strong leadership abilities and a passion for optimising processes.

Reporting to Head of Insight, you will take on management responsibilities for new and existing Research Managers (up to 4) plus oversight of Birmingham-based Research Analysts.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leadership: Assist the Head of Insight in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the team, ensuring that all reports are completed on time and meet the highest standards of accuracy and quality. You will be expected to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, prioritise tasks and managing resources effectively to ensure timely completion of our report deliverables.
  • Report Production: Oversee the creation of detailed reports, ensuring they are clear, insightful, and tailored to the needs of our clients. Support the team to deliver high quality reports through rigorous quality control procedures and training and development programmes. Work with the Product team to ensure Insight dovetails with our wider data and analytics offering and reflect the market-leading independent research we conduct.
  • Team Development: Mentor and train junior team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Establish a strong culture for the office working with both the Research Managers and Research Analysts. Focus on team motivation; maintaining high level of engagement via one-to-one meetings, smaller team meetings and team-wide meetings. Ensure learning and development opportunities are provided to your team and that promotion tracks are clear and achievable. Promote the company core values and DEI commitments to your team members and at a wider company level.
  • Stakeholder Communication and Support: Serve as a point of contact for Commercial and Product departments and external law firms. Provide updates on project status, addressing inquiries, and gathering feedback for continuous improvement of our Insight offering. Work with the Marketing team to ensure strong brand awareness for our Insight products. Ensure strong collaboration across other offices and with our main rankings research function based in London
  • Innovation and Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline reporting processes, implement best practices, and leverage new technologies to enhance efficiency. Work closely with our Product and Technology teams to help develop our digital Insight offering. Collaborate with the Head of Insight to develop and execute strategic plans for the growth.

Skills and Experience

  • Education: BA in Business, Finance, Data Science, Legal Studies, or a related field. An advanced degree is a plus.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience in data analysis, reporting, or project management within market research or a similar environment. Experience in a leadership or supervisory role, with a track record of managing teams and delivering projects to tight deadlines.
  • Technical Skills: A meticulous eye for detail, ensuring that all reports are accurate and error-free. Understanding of data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SmartSheets) or reporting tools. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets and translate them into actionable insights.

  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively. Playing a key role in establishing the latest Chambers office, creating a strong culture.
  • Strong attention to detail and experience of conducting high quality research. Desire to continuously improve our products and the skill levels of our team.
