Accountancy Recruit is exclusively partnering with a high-end design/fabricator in the recruitment of an aspiring Financial Controller, ambitious to move into a Finance Director role, based in Ipswich. The business is a PE backed SME currently scaling up and reflecting strong growth and a solid business plan. The purpose of the role is to ensure robust financial controls and cash management; supporting the CEO in recommendations to drive forward business success and growth.
The business needs detailed management reporting, a high level of financial analysis, development of systems and processes with a hands-on approach, providing support relating to transactional problem solving, with a view to building the team.
Key responsibilities:
- Manage and drive the finance function of an SME focused on scaling up and ensuring the efficiency of robust financial systems and processes.
- Contributing to the company financial strategy and decision-making process: working closely with the CEO.
- Managing, mentoring and motivating one person in the accounts - responsible for the purchase ledger and payroll.
- Prepare detailed monthly management accounts - develop management accounting to shorten month end deadline. Provide dashboard analysis and commentary to present to Senior Management.
- Preparation of month end closure, P&L accounts and bank / balance sheet reconciliations.
- Contribute to financial planning; leading finance across the business by analysing performance and risks communicating with a Business Partnering approach and working closely with the Sales Director.
- Preparation of annual budgets and weekly / 6 monthly rolling cash flow forecasts.

- Project based WIP reporting, stock, variance analysis and standard costing.
- VAT and PAYE reconciliations.
- Calculation and submission of VAT returns; dealing with HMRC.
- Expenses management.
- Reconciling aged debtors and creditors.
- Creation of a 3-year business plan.
- Managing the year end audit process, statutory compliance and liaising with external Accountants.
- Overseeing the accounts for the US entity.
- Lead a systems project to either upgrade the current Sage system or implement an alternative.
Requirements and skills
- Qualified ICAEW, ACCA or CIMA.
- Excellent communicator, with both internal and external colleagues at all levels.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Project based business background would be an advantage.
- Proven experience of ensuring robust financial controls and cash management.
- Ability to analyse and make recommendations, alongside the capacity to drive through key business changes for a business scaling up and experiencing rapid growth.
Remuneration
Salary £68 - 80,000 pa.
Performance related annual bonus.
Holidays: 23 days plus bank holidays.
Hours: Monday to Friday - 9.00 am to 5.00 pm
