Working with a talented team of Chartered, mid-level and graduate engineers, our clients vibrant Civil Engineering team are seeking a highly motivated, dedicated CIVIL ENGINEERING DESIGN ENGINEER OR DESIGN TECHNICIAN to join the Derby Office.

The successful candidate will have sound experience in a wide variety of Civil Engineering projects including highway and drainage design for a variety of sites with particular experience of both private and public works, including sections agreements (S38, S278, S106 etc).

Working on a broad range of projects, this high performing team of professionals are looking for diligent individual who can produce all relevant drawings for Civil Engineering projects. The projects are very diverse and generally challenging, incorporating bespoke new build, refurbishment and heritage works. One of my clients core values is re-use and sustainable engineering design.

Our client is a well-established practice with offices across the Midlands, operating since 1975. They have been providing high quality detailed technical design on projects UK wide. The client base includes other professionals, such as architects, developers, fabricators and provide building owners. They specialise in Engineering Consultancy which demands solutions to complex and challenging Schemes for a wide array of projects.

In order to be considered for this Civil Engineer/Civil Technician role you will;

  • Have at least 8 years post qualification experience in Civil Engineering and 2-5 years for the Technician role
  • Full UK driving license and own transport

Key responsibilities for this Civil Engineer/Technician role include:

Experience with the following would be highly desirable:

  • Providing high quality concept, preliminary and detailed technical design on projects requiring highway and drainage design.
  • Carrying out a range of drainage calculations, including QBar, attenuation storage, soakaway sizing, foul loads, pipeline capacities and network analysis for a range of drainage applications.
  • Carrying out a range of adoptable and non-adoptable highway, driveway carparking and footpath structural pavement designs for a range of permeable and non-permeable surfaces.
  • Preparing Developer Enquiries, Environment Agency product requests and LLFA information requests, relating to drainage designs, flood risk assessments and drainage strategies.
  • Preparing S104, S106 and S185 application forms and associated packages for submission to the Drainage Authority and Planning Authority.
  • Preparing S184, S278 and S38 application forms and associated packages for submission to the Highway Authority.
  • Report writing, e.g. Transport Statements, Travel Plans, Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Strategy Reports etc.
  • Management of sustainability criteria
  • Complying with designers' duties under the CDM Regulations

ESSENTIAL

  • Confidence and ability with team and project management

  • Good experience of drainage and highway design software (including Microdrainage or Flow, and 3D civils)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy of own work and that of others working with you
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider team
  • Being proactive without supervision
  • Client focused approach with good interpersonal and communication skills
