Assistant Finance Business Partner

We are excited to present an opportunity for an Assistant Finance Business Partner to join a dedicated finance team that plays a crucial role in supporting the organisation's mission. Key Responsibilities

  • Support Month-End Close: Collaborate with Finance Business Partners (FBPs) to ensure the smooth completion of month-end processes, including posting journals, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Budget Preparation: Assist in setting budgets for your regions by working closely with budget holders. Prepare cost centre budgets based on contract income, rent income, and actual performance, identifying key cost drivers.
  • Forecast Development: Aid in the creation of forecasts for your regions by consulting with budget holders to prepare cost centre forecast reports, analysing variances from budget, and projecting the net outcome for the year.
  • Budget Management: Engage in regular discussions with budget holders, at least monthly, to manage cost centre budgets. Ensure expenditures are accurately coded and provide support to budget holders in understanding and interpreting their financial performance.
  • Monthly Financial Reporting: Produce monthly financial reports under the guidance of the Finance Business Partner, including insightful commentaries on performance, in alignment with the group's timetable.
  • Financial Activity Review: Assist the Finance Business Partner in reviewing financial activities, conducting trend analysis, and providing reports and presentations as needed to support managers in decision-making processes.
  • Contract Financial Support: Work with the Business Development (BD) team to provide financial information for both new and existing contracts. Deliver accurate and timely service costings for new contracts in your regions as required.
  • Contractual Reporting: Help the Finance Business Partner prepare reports comparing actual activity against budgeted activity to fulfil contractual reporting requirements.
  • Relationship Management: Cultivate positive working relationships with operations managers and external funders.
  • Rent and Service Charge Support: Provide assistance to the Rent and Service Charge Accountant during the annual rent and service fee review.
  • Training and Guidance: Offer both ad hoc and formal training to operations managers, ensuring they can effectively utilise available financial monitoring tools and accurately interpret their project's financial performance.
  • Financial Management Meetings: Actively participate in regular financial management reporting meetings.
  • System and Procedure Development: Support the Finance team in the ongoing development and enhancement of financial systems and procedures to meet evolving regulatory requirements and organisational needs.
  • Policy Compliance: Ensure compliance with the latest financial policies and procedures within the organisation.
  • Year-End Accounts Preparation: Assist in preparing the year-end group accounts for submission to external auditors.
  • Professional Development: Stay informed of relevant technical developments in the accountancy profession to maintain best practices and compliance.
  • Regulatory and Industry Knowledge: Keep current with financial regulations, technological changes, industry legislation, and advances to effectively advise executive directors.

Essential Requirements

  1. Proven experience in preparing management accounts, budgets, and forecasts.
  2. Strong ability to interpret and analyse financial results, with the capability to effectively communicate these insights to non-finance staff through written commentaries and in-person discussions.
  3. Part-qualified Accountant, with experience within the Charity or Housing sector (Desirable)
  4. Proficiency in using computerised accounting and financial systems.
  5. Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
  6. Strong analytical, influencing, and negotiation skills.
  7. Understanding of management accountancy within an organisation that provides low-margin services to public sector bodies.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
