Become an Interim Financial Accountant

An exciting opportunity is available for an Interim Financial Accountant to join the finance team on an initial 6-month basis to support the team through its annual reporting process, month end and to contribute to a number of process improvement projects to enhance the quality and efficiency of the group's financial reporting environment.

The role will report directly to the Financial Reporting Manager but with dotted lines to the Financial Process Controller and Interim Financial Consultant.

Your Mission

  • Support month end accounting, posting journals and preparing balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Ensure provision of high quality, timely and consistent monthly reporting to management.
  • Review and follow-up of issues identified during monthly management accounts reviews, including identification and resolution of potential issues or exposures.
  • Become a key member of the financial reporting team ensuring adherence to IFRS accounting standards, maintenance and development of accounting policies and providing accounting advice to the business to ensure compliance.
  • Assist in the preparation of key accounting judgement papers.
  • Provide financial information to external tax advisors and assist with reviews of corporation tax computations for the Group and subsidiaries.
  • Work with the commercial finance team to assist with the preparation of, and performance monitoring against annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
  • Support in the annual reporting process to include
  • Preparation of consolidated IFRS group accounts and UK statutory accounts for subsidiary companies.
  • Liaison with the Group's auditors
  • Work with Financial Reporting Managers to draft subsidiary financial statements.
  • Working with the Financial Reporting and Financial Processing teams, support a culture of continuous improvement, identifying process and controls improvements. Examples include:
  • Assist in the enhancement of oversight of the group balance sheet and the development of regular CFO reporting.
  • Support progressing process enhancement over the group's property balance sheet.
  • Work with our external provider to own the group's utilities process to enhance the accuracy, timeliness and predictability of billing.
  • Work with the team's Internal Control Analyst to enhance the group's stock processes.
  • Build out the group's process, control and policy around capex.
  • Advance the group's control agenda through control identification, documentation and operational testing.
  • Prepare and complete national statistics surveys.

Skills/Behaviours That Will Set You Apart

  • Essential: Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA)
  • Strong all around accounting experience including external audit and financial control.
  • Experience of IFRS and external reporting requirements. Experience with lease accounting, inventory and hedging would be advantageous.
  • Experience and knowledge in dealing with technical accounting queries.
  • Ability to take complex accounting principles and simplify them into clear written and verbal communication.
  • Computer literate, with good Excel skills.
  • Attention to detail is essential.
  • Self-confident with strong interpersonal skills, able to communicate at all levels within the organisation as well as with external parties.
  • A strong self-starter with the desire to learn and ambition to progress further.
  • An audit background is desirable, this is a perfect role for a first time move from practice.
  • Retail industry experience is an advantage but not essential.
