Job Title: Outreach Officer

Overall Purpose of Job:

Our client, a dynamic and inclusive organisation, is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join their Welcome Newham Team as Outreach Officers. As part of this multilingual team, you will play a vital role in providing wraparound support to new arrivals in Newham, including sponsors and guests under the Homes for Ukraine and Afghan resettlement schemes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in supportive conversations with residents, sponsors, guests, refugees, and asylum seekers to understand their needs and provide advice and guidance on integration into the community.
  • Build trust with residents by offering support, encouraging open communication, and addressing any concerns.
  • Update case management systems and record interactions with sponsors and arrivals to ensure comprehensive support is provided.
  • Link residents to various support services, such as housing advice, benefits applications, ESOL classes, mental health support, and befriending services.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless coordination of support services and robust safeguarding procedures.
  • Raise any safeguarding concerns with the team leader or manager and follow established protocols.
  • Promote equality and diversity in all interactions and adhere to confidentiality and data protection principles.

Requirements:

  • Fluent in Ukrainian, with proficiency in Russian being preferred.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for travel within Newham (business insurance required).
  • Previous experience in a similar role, providing support to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold data governance protocols.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal office hours, including evenings and weekends when required.

Salary and Working Hours:

  • £18.50 per hour (PAYE)

Working hours: 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 10am - 5.45pm. 36 hours per week, over 5 days

Working Tuesdays and Thursdays is mandatory, can be flexible on other days (week days only) if reduced hours is preferred.

  • Flexibility in working patterns, including occasional remote work.

Training and Development:

  • Successful candidates will undergo a full DBS check and receive induction training, including GDPR and safeguarding.
  • Additional training in supportive conversations and the case management system will be provided remotely.

Location:

This position is based in Newham, London, with occasional work from other Newham-based offices such as Newham Dockside and Stratford Library. Some work from home is also required, so a reliable internet connection is essential.
