What the Payroll Manager job involves

  • Manage and develop the day-today-running of the payroll department, overseeing the payroll of circa 1500 employees on a monthly basis.
  • Manage a team of 4 payroll clerks to process the payroll and pensions for all employees, including holidays, expenses, tax code adjustments, salary sacrifice and other deductions.
  • Oversee the management of all starters, leavers, contract changes and tax code adjustments including P45, P60 and P11d's etc
  • Ensuring full compliance with employment legislation and internal polices and procedures.
  • Ensure accurate monthly and annual returns for all pension schemes, meeting deadlines.
  • Assist with the administration of all claims for extra payments and deductions including travel, subsistence, overtime and any other payment/deductions that have been authorised.
  • Generate reports (manually and from internal databases)
  • Monitor and check the accuracy of amendments to the payroll
  • Deal with pension administration and other payroll related benefits.
  • Provide advice to department managers and the HR team on payroll and pension updates.
  • Review and maintain service standards within the payroll team

Skills required

  • Payroll experience from the end to end process.
  • Experience of using a payroll software
  • Understanding of all payroll calculations including MSP, SSP, tax codes, holidays etc
  • A payroll qualification would be beneficial but not essential,
  • A strong attention to detail with the communication skills to match.
