Senior Assembly Technician

To support a team of assembly technicians to deliver gearboxes and axles on time to pre-defined build plans, whilst upholding the highest quality standards.

Technical expertise is the key skill required by the Senior Assembly Technician

Role autonomy:

  • Works with the team leader to plans prioritise and ensure maximum productivity, working to deadlines and time pressures.
  • Supports a productive team to deliver monthly build targets to a high-quality standard.
  • Is regarded as the subject matter expert for that assembly line or product range.
  • Is capable of training others to a known standard.
  • The role is supervised, but with some scope to amend routine processes if appropriate.
  • There is autonomy to make operational decisions in the absence of the departmental team leader.

Problem solving element:

  • Is a dedicated problem solver who possess clear and logical thinking.
  • Supports investigations and contributes ideas for continuous improvement.
  • Understands the appropriate actions to take when faced with unusual situations.
  • Problems tend to be routine in nature, and answers can be readily drawn from experience or the experience of colleagues.
  • The nature of problems may vary and require logical thinking to resolve.
  • Problems encountered tend to lack precedent, requiring some complex thinking to produce an innovative solution.

Knowledge and complexity:

  • Has excellent assembly and or test skills across a range of products, job-related training and knowledge of equipment and systems.
  • Understands relevant processes and commits to continuous learning.
  • Has advanced knowledge and expertise, with the ability to priorities tasks, organize work, and make sound decisions.
  • Has the knowledge to follow established principles and processes, best practice, and regulations.
  • Is highly qualified with extensive work experience and can apply industry knowledge
  • Is a Subject Matter Expert
  • Possesses strong business acumen and the ability to implement business and/or technical principles effectively.

Accountability:

  • Manages time effectively and prioritises tasks to meet set deadlines.
  • Demonstrates integrity, takes responsibility for actions and decisions, acknowledges errors and develops plans to prevent recurrence.
  • Pays attention to detail while following strict quality, health and safety procedures, and implements good judgment to make appropriate decisions.

  • Shows vigilance and diligence, maintaining high standards of work while staying calm under pressure.

Leadership:

  • The senior technician must be personable, approachable, collaborative and be able to balance multiple projects concurrently.
  • They will need to act with urgency when required.
  • They will need to be organized, self-motivated and able to motivate others to achieve monthly build plans.
  • Is familiar with problem solving tools such as 8D, for investigation of quality issues and can work cross functionally in resolution of quality issues.
  • Is capable of training others to a known standard
  • Must be able to communicate in a clear, concise, honest manner both orally and in written format.
  • Be able to speak with technicians through to senior management confidently.
  • Equally must be able to work effectively cross functionally with their peers.

Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualifications:

  • Expected to be UK on site at their Leamington Spa site 5 days per week.
  • Permanent day shift role
  • May be necessary to support Customer meetings Minimum GCSE in Mathematics and English (Grade C or above).
  • Likely to have served a traditional apprenticeship or have relevant experience. Further vocational qualifications are an advantage.
  • Assembly and / or end of line test experience of complex mechanical and hydraulic systems.
  • Clear demonstration of technical knowledge / expertise
  • Ability to use measurement equipment such as vernier, micrometer etc.
  • Intermediate level of PC and general computer skills - a solid working knowledge of MS office.
  • Strong organisational skills. Is self-motivated and proactive.
  • Understanding of automotive quality control processes
