Head of Merchandise Planning 6-month FTC

In this role, you will be responsible for delivering all key financial Merchandising KPIs across the business. You should enjoy being customer-facing to maintain, develop, and contribute to a profitable business plan across all formats and products. Leading a team of Merchandise Planners, you will ensure that the right information is available to the right people at the right time to facilitate accurate decisions across product, range, and supply planning.

Description

  • Leading Net GI and EPOS planning for customers with multi-million pound sales turnovers
  • Ensuring that all factors, both internal and external, are identified and evaluated with clear assumptions and contingency plans to successfully deliver the agreed plan
  • Securing key stakeholders' alignment to the plan, both internally and externally, and defining all necessary actions to deliver the plan supported by relevant KPIs
  • Driving effective trading activity by analysing and evaluating performance to ensure that interventions needed to maximise sales or mitigate risk are clearly identified
  • Developing strong cross-functional relationships and understanding of each function to ensure that all interventions and activities are delivered in the most effective and profitable way
  • Using financial analysis to generate, evaluate, and deliver on strategic opportunities for the future aligned with the strategic direction of both the customer and client
  • Defining and setting the customer Joint Business Plan alongside the Head of Commercial
  • Developing your immediate team and contributing to the success of the wider merchandising team
  • Being a functional specialist Lead within wider business initiatives to drive efficiencies, improve ways of working, and increase profit

Profile

This is a central role within our matrix-managed business, and to be successful, we are looking for you to demonstrate:

  • Solid experience of working in a Merchandising Planning role within a Retail/FMCG business
  • Proven experience of influencing others across multiple functions, internally and externally
  • Excellent Excel, numeric, and analytical abilities to identify commercial insights relevant to our audience
  • Confidence in communication, ability to adjust your approach to varying audiences, and the ability to marry your superior presentation skills with your skilled use of data and insights
  • Wider commercial thinking to engage and influence key stakeholders across the business and ensure that profit growth is core to all decisions made
  • Thorough knowledge of the retail planning process and the ability to motivate, inspire, and lead those around you
  • Being a confident, considered, data-driven decision maker, comfortable with making decisions efficiently, with strategy and business plans
  • Being organized, detail-oriented, and having experience in planning and forecasting sales across multiple seasons/customers
  • Being a natural leader, with previous experience of leading a team being an advantage
  • Being seen as a technical expert by your peers and fellow merchandise team
  • A solid awareness of retail, and ideally our category, influences which are factored into your decision-making to mitigate risks to sales
