Chichester College Group have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as an ALS Job Coach at our Crawley College. You will join us on a part time, term time only basis and in return, we will offer a competitive salary pro rata of £23,497 to £25,678 per annum (i.e. £11,712.35 - £12,799.50), plus £304 Crawley Weighting Allowance.

The ALS Job Coach role:

Are you looking for a term time only role that enables you make a real difference to learners' lives?

The Additional Learning Support team provides advice and support to learners with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) to overcome barriers to work and progress into paid employment through our Supported Internship programmes.

As our Additional Learning Support Job Coach, you will provide learners with on-the-job training and support whilst on work placements or in paid employment.

Key Responsibilities of our ALS Job Coach:

  • Deliver a quality service to enable learners to develop and achieve on our Supported Internship programme.
  • Provide learners with advice and guidance and support them in creating/updating CV's and with the completion of job application forms etc.
  • Carry out job search activities with and on behalf of learners.
  • Facilitate pre-planned training sessions for learners.
  • Work intensively with learners on a 1:1 basis without direct supervision, using a variety of techniques to teach the skills necessary to carry out a particular job or task, whilst ensuring approaches used by individual's maximise their independence and interact with available opportunities.
  • Undertake contact visits whilst learners are on placement, referring any issues to the Teaching & Learning Manager.
  • Liaise with employers, parents/carers and other relevant people in a professional manner in order to develop effective working relationships and ensure the successful movement of learners into the workplace.
  • Promote an understanding of equal opportunities, economic disadvantage and disability amongst employers and other employees to ensure the positive acceptance of learners into the workforce, challenging discrimination or prejudice where necessary.
  • Ensure that learners' needs and any concerns regarding their health, safety and welfare are brought to the attention of a senior member of staff.
  • Provide regular progress reports; contribute at review meetings and in the development of individual training plans and on-going evaluation of their effectiveness.
  • Work on a one-to-one basis with learners in a variety of settings without direct supervision.

Our ideal ALS Job Coach should have the below skills and experience:

  • Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Level 3 subject sector relevant qualification
  • Experience of working with learners with SEND
  • Experience of working in Further Education
  • Experience of working with colleagues from other organisations towards a common goal
  • Working on own initiative, setting own priorities with minimum supervision
  • Understanding the ways in which training opportunities are provided and accessed by people
  • Understanding of the local labour market, linking Barrier Breaking services to employment opportunities
  • Ability to work using own initiative
