Designated Lead - Safeguarding

We are seeking a Designated Lead for Safeguarding to ensure the safety and welfare of all children within our partnership with a local Plymouth nursery. This role involves acting in accordance with good practice, policy, and legislation on all Safeguarding and Child Protection matters. The successful candidate will provide leadership, decision-making guidance, and support for all employees in relation to these critical areas.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Responsible for referring cases of suspected abuse to the appropriate authorities and supporting staff in these processes.
  • Act as the lead for Prevent Duty concerns and liaise with the Disclosure and Barring Service as required.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and child protection by attending regular training and updating the team and Trustees.
  • Ensure all staff, new and existing, understand the nursery's safeguarding procedures.
  • Regularly review and update safeguarding policies and procedures in line with new legislation and good practice, ensuring all staff are trained on any updates.
  • Manage detailed, accurate, and secure records of concerns and referrals.
  • Lead key safety initiatives and ensure the secure transfer of child protection files when children transition to new settings.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Childcare or equivalent.
  • GCSE English and Maths Grade C equivalency or above.
  • Advanced Safeguarding/DSL Safeguarding Certificate.
  • Proven experience in child protection and safeguarding within the childcare and early education sector.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Desirable: Detailed knowledge of current legislation relevant to Early Years.
