About The School: The High School is a dynamic and forward-thinking educational institution committed to providing high-quality education and fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all students. They are currently seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Head of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) to join the dedicated team.

Core Purpose: As the Head of MFL, you will provide professional leadership and management of the MFL department to secure high-quality teaching, effective use of resources, and improved standards of learning and achievement for all students. You will work alongside the second in department (if applicable) to develop strategic priorities for the curriculum area and ensure that students excel and enjoy their learning experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning:

  • Lead and manage the MFL department on a day-to-day basis.
  • Set and maintain high standards of teaching and learning across all age and ability ranges.
  • Ensure the provision of a broad, balanced, and differentiated curriculum.
  • Develop and refine schemes of work in line with KS3 and GCSE specifications.
  • Promote MFL learning through extracurricular activities and interventions.
  • Manage and develop high-quality teaching resources and ensure appropriate use of budgets.

Leadership:

  • Establish good relationships and celebrate good working practices.
  • Lead, manage, and develop the curriculum area.
  • Effectively manage and deploy staff, financial, and physical resources.
  • Produce and monitor a detailed termly Development Plan and Self Evaluation Form.
  • Support and motivate support staff within the Learning Area.

Standards and Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure the area's quality procedures meet the school's Self Evaluation strategy and Improvement Plan.
  • Liaise with external agencies and organisations to maintain high standards.
  • Attend and participate in open/parent evenings, team and staff meetings, and SLT and CPD sessions.

Other Duties:

  • Implement the aims and objectives of the school
  • Support and contribute to the school's responsibility for safeguarding students.
  • Foster positive relations with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Maintain high professional standards of attendance, punctuality, appearance, and conduct.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Proven experience in teaching MFL across various key stages.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.
