The Role
As a Credit Controller, you will play a crucial role in managing the financial health of our company by ensuring timely payments from clients. You will be responsible for monitoring outstanding debts, communicating with clients to facilitate payment, and implementing strategies to minimise bad debt risk. Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a firm grasp of financial principles are essential for success in this role.
This role is very fast paced, especially towards the end of the week when fast decisions are required. You will therefore work closely with the operations and sales departments to provide key information to minimise risk and to service the client with a fast turnaround.
Key Responsibilities
Debt Monitoring: Regularly review and analyse outstanding invoices and payments to identify overdue accounts.
Collections: Initiate contact with customers via phone and email to follow up on overdue payments and negotiate payment plans when necessary.
Customer Communication: Maintain professional and courteous communication with customers to resolve payment discrepancies and address any queries or concerns they may have.
Credit Risk Assessment: Assess the creditworthiness of new and existing customers by reviewing credit applications, conducting credit checks, and setting appropriate credit limits.
Reporting: Prepare regular reports on the status of outstanding debts, ageing analysis, and collections activities for management review.
Dispute Resolution: Investigate and resolve billing disputes or discrepancies in a timely manner to facilitate prompt payment.
Relationship Management: Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, the operations and sales teams, and other internal stakeholders to facilitate effective credit management.
Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline credit control processes, improve efficiency, and minimise bad debt exposure.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with company's credit insurance policy.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all communications and actions taken regarding credit control activities.
Successful Applicant
Proven experience in credit control or accounts receivable management.
Strong understanding of financial principles and credit risk assessment techniques.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers and internal stakeholders.
Proficiency in using Sage accounting software (beneficial) and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
Attention to detail and strong analytical skills for assessing creditworthiness and identifying discrepancies.
Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
