Behaviour Support Manager/Progress and Wellbeing Coach
I am currently working with a large primary school based in North Leeds who are looking to appoint a Progress and Wellbeing Coach, sometimes known as a Family Support worker or Behaviour Support Manager in other schools. The school is an incredible place to work where everyone is valued, ideas are listened to and creativity is encouraged. They invest in building strong relationships with parents, carers and the local community and have set up a community café and various other engagement activities. The school also has a positive approach to encouraging outdoor learning and wellbeing and has a Forest School on site and the children run a mile every day.
The school pride themselves on creating a great place to work, all staff have yearly career conversations and the school is happy to support additional training where relevant.

Your new role as Behaviour Support Manager/Progress and Wellbeing Coach
This role is permanent and to start as soon as possible in September. You will be responsible for providing support and guidance to pupils and their families who are experiencing difficulties with learning due to social, emotional or behavioural problems or other issues. You will also lead the implementation of safeguarding and child protection policies across school; coordinating referrals, arranging action and reviewing services for children and families.

Some duties of the role include:
Progress coaching

  • To promote positive behaviour patterns, raise self-esteem and improve independent work in pupils to assist their education and growth.
  • To support the physical and emotional well-being of pupils.
  • To build and maintain positive and professional relationships with pupils and their families.
  • To help develop pupils' confidence and self-esteem through listening to them and devising appropriate programmes of support.
  • To support underperforming learners by identifying issues which are creating barriers to learning and helping pupils to begin to address these barriers.
  • To work with identified Pupil Premium group pupils and their families to narrow the attainment gap using a variety of methods including observations, in-class support, and conference calls.
  • To commit to pastoral team priorities, reporting on the impact of interventions
  • Liaising with external agencies.
  • Holding parental surgeries and workshops.
  • Attending parent-teacher meetings and consultations.

Safeguarding

  • To implement the DfE and School's child protection policy and procedures.
  • To encourage good practice by promoting and championing child protection/ safety policies and procedures.
  • To respond appropriately to disclosures or concerns which relate to the well-being of a child.
  • To maintain accurate, confidential and up-to-date documentation on all cases of safeguarding and child protection and report where required. (CPOMs)
  • To work directly with children in need and their families in the community in order to promote, strengthen and develop the potential of parents/carers and their children in order to prevent children becoming looked after and/or suffering significant harm.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Degree level education or equivalent
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development evidenced through certificates or enrolment in relevant college or professional body courses
  • Extensive experience of working effectively with children, young people and families in challenging environments
  • Excellent communication skills - both face to face and written
  • The ability to deal with sensitive situations in a confidential manner
  • The ability to work positively and effectively under pressure, taking note of, and acting on, all issues relating to the wellbeing and safeguarding of children
  • A commitment to develop the personalities and abilities of all children at the school
  • Proactive team member skills but able to take the initiative and work independently when needed
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of child growth and development
  • The ability to relate to young people and act as a positive role model
  • The ability to set and stay within professional boundaries
  • General understanding of national/foundation stage curriculum and other basic programmes/strategies
  • A positive non-judgemental mindset
