Job Description:

My client, a specialist retailer and part of a wider group are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Finance Assistant to join ideally on a temporary to permanent basis for an immediate start. In this role, you will provide critical support to the Finance Director and ensure the smooth operation of tje finance department. You will supervise the Purchase Ledger Clerk and Finance Administrator, manage various financial processes, and contribute to the overall financial health of the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Finance Director in daily operations and strategic initiatives
  • Supervising and providing guidance to the Purchase Ledger Clerk and Finance Administrator
  • Managing credit control and conducting credit checks on customers
  • Releasing sales orders and ensuring compliance with credit policies
  • Preparing and posting monthly prepayments
  • Performing monthly UK VAT reconciliation and bi-monthly Ireland VAT reconciliation
  • Entering manual journal entries accurately
  • Calculating monthly service profitability and managing fixed assets and depreciation
  • Posting intercompany stock invoices and agreeing balances at month-end
  • Completing and maintaining the monthly management account spreadsheet
  • Resolving customer queries efficiently and effectively
  • Preparing weekly cash flow reports
  • Conducting daily bank reconciliation and posting payments and receipts
  • Authorising bank payments and processing payment runs in the absence of the Purchase Ledger Clerk
  • Managing emails, post, and ordering stationery
  • Liaising with auditors and providing necessary information
  • Performing month-end debtors and creditors reconciliation
  • Undertaking ad hoc duties as required to support the finance team

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a similar finance role
  • Strong knowledge of credit control, VAT reconciliation, and financial reporting
  • Proficiency in IT, including advanced Excel skills (V-Lookups) and experience with SAP
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant accounting or finance qualification (e.g., AAT, ACCA, CIMA)
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Previous supervisory experience
