Welfare Officer

Location: Dublin, Dublin International Study Centre

Salary: up to €30,400 per annum

To provide welfare support to students at both individual and group levels. Responsible for student coaching, monitoring and intervention both academic and pastoral.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Deliver tutorial sessions, which address the needs of students in their new environment.
  • Maintain and update the "Life Skills" Module on the VLE
  • Monitor pastoral and academic welfare and ensure students are effectively directed to the appropriate university services to meet their welfare needs, including medical services, accommodation and counselling services.
  • To counsel students with welfare and health issues, advising accordingly and maintaining notes in Study Global, keeping the Welfare Officer informed as necessary
  • To assist the Centre management team and Administration team in helping students settle in, participating in Induction week activities and presentations, and providing induction information for late-arriving students.
  • To support the Welfare Lead with welfare cases and offer pastoral support to students (in line with Centre policy).
  • Undertake individual tutorials to identify and monitor student progress, through goal setting and action planning.
  • Continually update the Welfare Lead & Head of Curriculum Progression of 'at risk' individuals and groups of students.
  • Liaising with Academic Tutors on intervention strategies for improving student performance and reducing the number of students on the 'at risk' register.
  • Provide counselling sessions upon receipt of student results and support non-progressing students through alternative options.
  • To deliver regular "prepare to progress" tutorials to tutor groups and provide individual academic counselling to students.
  • To track student performance and liaise promptly with the academic team to identify suitable intervention strategies.
  • To track VLE analytics and gather data on work completion to identify gaps and actions for students.
  • Deputies for the Welfare Lead as required.

ABOUT YOU

  • Degree level or equivalent (required)
  • Degree/Professional Certificate in Social Work (desirable)
  • Certificate in Coaching Skills (desirable)
  • Experience working in a student support setting, ideally with international students, or another similar setting. (required)
  • Experience in providing advice and guidance to others. (required)
  • Experience and understanding of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students. (desirable)
  • Experience and understanding of compliance requirements in an academic setting. (desirable)
