Job Title: Building Technician

Location: Primarily site-based at Ashford, with occasional travel to other sites as required

Salary: £14.93 per hour

Hours: 37.5 per week, Monday - Friday, 8am-4pm

Our client is seeking a committed and versatile prfessional to join their team, offering essential repair and maintenance services across multiple sites. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment, can work independently, and enjoys the challenge of a fast-paced, demand-driven setting.

As a Building Technician, you'll play a vital role in maintaining high standards across building facilities, ensuring safe and reliable operations in compliance with health, safety, and building regulations. From essential repairs and planned maintenance to in-depth inspections and troubleshooting, your work will directly impact creating a secure and functional environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct essential repair works and preventative maintenance following company procedures
  • Collaborate with the Team Leader and Building Manager to address building issues and resource needs
  • Perform specialised tasks, including tiling, roofing repairs, tarmac maintenance, and fire door inspections
  • Maintain and refurbish various types of furniture, doors, windows, and locks, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards
  • Follow all health and safety guidelines, reporting any potential hazards and deviations immediately
  • Undertake essential repair works and general maintenance activities at the request of the Team Leader/Manager
  • Liaise with the Team Leader/Manager regarding building failures and request the supply of goods and/or services as the requirement arises.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspections following procedures
  • Complete all report sheets and test certificates as necessary
  • Follow planned maintenance schedules
  • Wall and Floor tiling repairs/works of various specifications
  • Carry out roofing repairs
  • Carry out tarmac repairs to roads and footpaths
  • Maintain all fire doors and systems in line with statutory and HTM regulations and guidance
  • Interpret and work from all instructions, drawings and specifications appropriate to the Trade, without supervision
  • Setting out new work as appropriate to the joinery trade using relevant machinery without supervision
  • Carry out refurbishment and repairs to all types of furniture
  • Undertake the necessary inspection and repair of fire precaution works as required to maintain the building's integrity as required and to report any defects
  • Carry out repairs/refurbishments to Doors, Windows and Locks and maintain window restrictors in line with HTM regulations and local procedures
  • Provide guidance and support to apprentices and maintenance assistants, contributing to a learning-focused workplace

Working Conditions:

  • Confined spaces and heights may be involved, with outdoor work required in varied weather conditions
  • Exposure to noise, manual handling tasks, and use of power tools is expected
  • Occasional lone working, night shifts, and travel between sites will be required

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with internal teams and external contractors
  • Confidence with technology and company communication devices for prompt emergency response
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications independently
  • Adaptable with a 'can-do' attitude in a demand-driven, solution-oriented work environment
  • Willingness to undergo training and develop skills aligned with evolving industry standards

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven experience in building maintenance or a similar role
  • Knowledge of: - Woodworking rotating machinery, complex drainage systems, joinery techniques, vinyl floor repairs, roof repairs of various types, door and window furniture & basic locksmithing
  • Familiarity with relevant health and safety regulations, including Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, with strong decision-making skills
  • Must have the skills and knowledge to avoid danger
  • Have a thorough knowledge of building fabric systems - a mechanical or electrical bias is acceptable
  • Good communication skills are essential for this role
  • Good written skills are a basic requirement for the job
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines is a requirement of the role
  • Ideally will have 5 GCSEs, or BTEC or City & Guilds, but not essential

Training Available

  • Attend company and Manufacturer training establishments as required
  • Provide training, technical advice and support to Building Apprentices and Maintenance Assistants
  • Obtain Associate membership of a relevant accredited organisation
  • Keep up to date with company electronic online training Health Safety Responsibilities
